Positive To Come Out Of This...

"Alright! So this past wednesday, the Resolution F2008-08 Athletic Fee was passed by SGA. This resolution means that the student body will be voting upon whether or not they want to raise the athletic fee from $3 per semester credit hour to $10 per semester credit hour. The money from this increase will be used to improve the athletic facilities on campus.

The reasons why one should vote "yes":

The money will allow the construction of the new football stadium which is needed because Fouts Field only has a few years of life in it.

The longer we wait to build the new stadium, the more it will cost to build a new stadium and the student body will be have an even greater increase of athletic fees.

The construction of the new stadium (which will be green friendly) has the great possibility of getting great national publicity. University of North Texas will definitely have a greater dot on the map, giving degrees from UNT a higher caliber.

Fouts Field cannot attract the talent. Most high school football players in the DFW area play in better football stadiums than Fouts Field. Those potential drafts are not going to want to play for a college that has a stadium that is of worse quality of their high school stadium.

The student body will not have the increase of athletic fees until the new stadium is open.

The cost of athletic fees will cap off at $150 per semester and the normal student fees will also be decreased by $3 per semester hour. So at max, the increase of total fees will be only $60 per semester.

The new stadium will be able to house big name concerts.

UT charges $20 per semester credit hour for athletic fees and then still charge the students for going to athletic events. UNT will only charge $10 per semester credit hour and the admission of varsity sport games at our stadium will still be free!

Fouts Field is not in the shape to host high power visitors like Texas senators or even US senators or congressmen.

The cost of upkeep for Fouts Field keeps on increasing at an accelerated rate and eventually by not building a new stadium, the school will be losing more money than it is gaining from football games.
