A journalism class did a poll of students asking if they supported the $7 per credit hour increase for the new stadium for a story that will go in to the NT Daily. The poll results are as follows: 214 against, 74 for, and 12 don't know / don't care. Just found the poll interesting, NT Daily is taking the position that the general consensus of students are against the stadium based on this poll.

And what happened to the earlier poll that the Daily took? The one that showed 74% for and 26% against?

The early poll contained self-selecting internet bias.

This one contains representational bias.

Both can be fun, but neither is even close to scientific or even attempts to trump biases, and neither belongs in print. See my last post in the "opposition" thread for some additional info.

Stop. Just stop, Seriously, GMG should not comment on anything regarding a student vote until after it is over.

STOP.

And why not? If it is a fact that this poll was taken, and it is a fact that these are the results what is the harm in stating that? So now, in addition to not being able to help in any way/shape/form to see that our alma mater's athletic future is secured, we also can't talk about it?

I hate to say it but more and more it sounds like this vote will fail and we're supposed to take our "sit back and don't disturb us" attitude that we've been fed for the last few years.

if the poll is what was described, they should be called to the carpet for doing a skewed poll. What are their intentions?

Also for not talking about the vote, when did she get so many nannies telling us what to do on the forum. If this little board is going to cost the vote, then we are screwed anyways.

I wouldn't expect anything different from The Daily. <_<

It does not say that they polled a journalism class. It says a journalism class did the polling. Nothing wrong with that. Polling is one of the things that journalists do.

However, the very proper questions that should be addressed to the report and to the journalism class that took the poll are: who did they poll, how did they select those to be polled, and what questions did they ask? This political season has shown how easy it is to skew results one way or another by the way questions are phrased. Before I put any faith in this poll, I want to know their methodology.

As to the vote, there's nothing wrong with us discussing things. Some, including UNTflyer and those directing the pro-stadium campaign, feel that the alumni should not get involved in the campaign. It's a student vote, so let the students and the athletic department handle it. Of course it's okay to discuss the stadium vote. But everyone should be aware that comments on this board expressing disdain for the students and the vote could be used by the anti-stadium forces in their campaign.

They asked random students around campus. They also have the names and numbers of every person they asked just in case the validity of the poll comes into question.

Wins over the next 3 weeks would do so much to influence students to vote for the stadium.

I agree, but I think we will probably win one of those games, and what will that do for the stadium campaign??

I point out that the NT Daily predicted Jeff Kline would lose the election in a landslide.

I also point out that people here believe the Daily played a big part in why the last student fee wasn't passed, so to pretend like this isn't a big deal would be silly

What should we expect? The news media has decided it knows whats best for the American people, so it has taken upon itself to elect the next President. For the most part, there is no unbiased or middle of the road reporting, where both sides of an argument are reported/presented, and allowing the people to make up their own minds. It is evident from this survey that this attitude is not changing with our future journalists. It seems the NT Daily has decided what is best for the future of UNT football. Watch, they will torpedo this from now until the election!

Well, it's Thursday and we have yet to see this alleged poll. Friday is usually fluff stories, and there are fewer on campus to read the print edition, so if the Daily is going to run such a critical piece that would be the day to do it.
