When I first heard they were remaking this film and had casted Keanu Reeves I was immediately dissapointed but after seeing this video I am somewhat intrigued.

It doesn't hold that true to the original but I am interested enough to see it.

Original is one of my all time favorite sci-fi movies. I am thinking this re-make not so much! I have a sinking feeling that the folks want to send some sort of "message" that we are so very bad...and what's up with the superpowers for K?????? I'll have to watch a couple more episodes before I make the "final answer" on this one...interesting...jury is still out for me.

I had a similar negative reaction, and I'm still not thrilled. The Day The Earth Stood Still was very much a product of its era - the height of the cold war, when suspicions were high of anything out of the ordinary. I'll wait for the reviews before deciding, but I'm not going to be in line for it. The original was brilliant.

The alien's name is Klaatu, and the order to Gort is "Klaatu barada nikto," which was famously re-visited in Army of Darkness by the great Bruce Campbell.

From the trailer I saw, it looks like they've left Gort out of the remake. I hope the filmmaker enjoys his prolonged stay in purgatory.

Yup, the great sci-fi trilogy.

It's first the order given to Gort.

Next, it was used to ame three of Jabba's henchmen in Return of the Jedi (later revealed to be names of species rather than the specific characters).

Finally, it was revisited as the incantation in Evil Dead 3 (Army of Darkness).

Talk about Gort has been going on since the imdb page first appeared. No one was cast.

If you watch closely at 7:15 a huge figure stands in the explosion and then fires. My guess is that is Gort.

--Some films should not be remade... the original is too good and the times have changed greatly and there is no point to modernizing it (if that is what was attempted) .

Another sci-fi movie that is one of my favorites is "War of the Worlds",

which was remade staring Tom Cruise. The orginal had Gene Barry,

who played in the TV series, Bat Masterson, as the leading character.

The remake followed the same story line, except the aliens were already

buried in the earth for centuries and sudddenly awake, and start attacking

the earth. Another missing scene was in the orginal movie, where the town pastor

walks out to one of the aliens machines trying to communicate, but gets zapped

by the aliens. There are several other orginal movies scenes that were not in

the remake. That is why I do not like a remake of the orginal movie. Too many

script and production changes off the orginal movie. I prefer the movie

producers to leave a good classic movie alone.

If I had never seen the orginal War of the Worlds, the remake is not

too bad of a movie.
