• You can bet folks in Tallahassee, Fla., were paying attention last week when the New Mexico football program was put on probation for academic violations. New Mexico was put on probation for three years and had five scholarships taken away during that span. The Lobos can't award more than 20 scholarships to incoming recruits (the NCAA limit is 25) in the 2009, 2010 and 2011 recruiting classes; further, it can't have more than 80 players on scholarship (the limit is 85) during that span. The NCAA found that two now-former assistants broke the rules by helping three recruits and one enrolled player receive fraudulent academic credit through correspondence courses from an accredited four-year school. Florida State will meet with NCAA officials this fall about its academic scandal. About 60 student-athletes across numerous sports were involved, and two staff members were fired by the school in the wake of an in-house investigation. The cheating happened in online tests for a music history class in 2006 and '07.

This is what really boggles the mind. Having to cheat on an online test.

ONLINE!

As in, you can sit in front of your computer with the text book and your notes.

They cheated... on an ONLINE TEST.

I had professors at UNT for online courses who said that we could use our book and notes on the test, as long as we finished in the allotted amount of time. I think that the problems arose when they used someone else and the answers...

Nope. I've taken lots of online courses, and open book and notes is fine. I've never had a professor say it was prohibited.

But the thing is, if you don't study the material then the book really doesn't help much. Most online tests give you about 15-30 seconds to complete each question.

Yeah, well, if you've paid any attention at all, the book is good for "wait, was it this guy, or that one?" If you have to cheat, you obviously don't know anything at all about the subject and shouldn't be in college.

The hardest homework I *ever* EVER had was the Physics online homework server. It was brutal. There was no way a text book could help you.

I knew plenty of people who cheated using it. A group populated a spreadsheet that you could plug your numbers into and it would generate the answers....

You're giving away secrets. They WILL kill you. Doesn't matter if you have some pull in the organization or not.
