Anyone else concerned about the size of our offensive tackle Gill? He's a good athlete but wow that's a lot of pounds he's giving up to K-State!

Yes, especially considering he will be protecting Vizza's blinde side.

Yes, that is a big concern. I hope that Vizza can survive the pressure that will be applied by the bigger, stronger and quick right defensive ends in the OOC games this year.

A former player, who worked for a friend of mine last year, maintained a close relationship with many former defensive players. Last year, when I commented to him about Gill's size and his move to the OL he predicted that Gill would start this year. He said that "He (Gill) may be underweight but he just won't let anyone beat him and he fights until the whistle blows". I think Spencer knows what he is doing in starting Gill.

Not just K-State, but pretty much every team we are going to go against!

This is very concerning...I am all about rewarding hard work and dilligence, but 250 at tackle is tough to swallow

I am all for moving a TE to Tackle, it's the latest fad. They usually already have some weight on them, and are athletic. In this case though I'm a little worried. I think he could be great in a year with some more weight. But for now at 260, that worries me. I think alot depends on how the JUCO guards progress.

We'd all like to see him larger but I think back to Andy Brewster's first and second years when he probably didn't weigh more than 240. Not to worry, he had the technique and the tenacity to seldom get beaten. I look at Gill as the second coming of Andy Brewster.

I worry; but only so far. He needs some quickness to keep the speed rushing DE from looping around to the outside and he may lose some of that quickness if he weighed 300 pounds. If I were Vizza, I'd rather have a quick Victor Gill protecting my blind side than any other lineman that we have.

I agree. It's not like we can't pull him after the first series if he's getting manhandled. Personally, I like having a quick and tough guy like Gill covering Vizza's arse.

I agree with Jack. And this quote (to me anyway) seems to confirm his theory.

"What Gill gives up in size, he makes up for with technique and intelligence," UNT head coach Todd Dodge said. "He will put a body in front of somebody.

What this says to me is that any DE or DT that wants to get to Vizza will literally have to go through Gill. I read the coaches comments as meaning that, unless Gill is playing across the line from the Incredible Hulk, and gets thrown around like a rag doll, he's going to always be between the DE/DT and Vizza, ........until Vizza gets rid of the ball.

I'll take that any day over some hulking lineman that can only watch as some fast DE or DT blows by him.

Also keep in mind that even though the quotes about Gill come from Dodge, the decision to move Gill to that position is being made by a very experienced D-1 O-line coach.
