One of my favorite memories was when Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity painted the stadium green. We worked on the stadium and listened to the North Texas vs. Tennessee game over the loud speakers in the stadium. When the team arrived back in Denton after upsetting the Vols, some of the players thought we had painted the stadium to commemorate their victory over Tennessee.

One of my favorite memories of Coach Fry was on Thursday before the TN game at the Pep Rally near Clark Hall. NT had just the week before lost a heartbraker at Miss. St. in which its top two QBs Kenny Washington and Ken Smith both went down. The only QB available was an unknown transfer from Nebraska named Glen Ray. As I was lamenting what a terrible situation this was to be going into the TN game, Coach Fry looked me dead in the eyes and said " things are not always as they appear". Somewhere I think I still have my unused ticket to that game in Knoxville. From that point on I never underestimated Coach Fry's ability to motivate a team. If there was a big game on the line, I would rather have had him on the sidelines than any coach in America at the time.

--Glen Ray played for Midland High. We sat a few rows behind his mother and she often was about as entertaining as the game.. She was wild and crazy and always yelling. He was a pretty good QB, if he had not had been, Nebraska would not have given him a scholarship to start with.

---Glen Ray (Midland) and Hayden Fry (Odessa) both never gave up and always thought there was a way they could win.
