wow the new coach has certainly garnered the attention of many recruits and transfers. 2008 could be a tough year but 2009 could be a break out year if the transfers and HS recruits mesh well. Looks like almost a brand new team for 2009.

Ok so I am not claiming to know a lot about womens college basketball but she did not really light up the stat sheet as a sophmore considering she seemed to be a very high recruit. So she will transfer and miss this coming year so by the time she is eligible to play she is 3 years out of high school. Again I know she was a high recruit going to UT but I am not sure if this is really a big time transfer as the title of this thread exists. Again I could be wrong and hope I am.

It's bigtime. She wasn't first team all state for nothing.

She has two years eligibility remaining, and she made the Big 12 academic honor roll.

Seems like a good player that just needed a change of situations.

Maybe she can help recruit her McDonald's All-American sister (Destini) away from LSU. Heading to Baton Rouge in about 3 weeks!

She was a great player at Waxahachie and will be a nice addition. The FW Dunbar girls would agree as well. She had a monster game in the state semi-finals to keep Dunbar from repeating as state champs in 05-06. Destini transfered to Kennedale.

If she had originally committed to NT and was now transferring to UT what would you think? Just wondering since your post in the UT thread on the other board would suggest you need to replace those worn knee pads.

You can say what if's but like in just about most cases that did not happen. All I am saying is that in two years she couldnt get much playing time considering she was a big time recruit in high school and dominated. Well frankly thats high school and its long over with. I bet she would not have said anything about a positive environment if she was playing a heck of a lot more and was one of the better players on the team. I know UT womens basketball is filled with talent but I guess I am just saying that I am not all sold on this being a big time transfer. Obviously this could be atleast decent because the team probably needs all the talent it can get but I am just not sure this is a "big time" transfer.

She was the #4 ranked player in the state. If that doesn't convince you, then I give up.

Besides, a new coach came to UT last year and maybe her style doesn't fit Hughes' style. Either way, this is a great committment.

Hughes could be a great recruit for NT. There is too much possible upside with Hughes and Hudson to not take a chance especially when you have as many ships to offer as NT. Most rebound recruits transfer because of lack of playing time. You don't see many starters changing schools. JJ has obviously been very successful with rebound recruits such as Wooden, Davis and Dennis. None of these players were real successes at their prior schools. Hughes and perhaps even Hudson had coach changes that may have contributed to their diminished playing time.

I am not surprised at the new coach's recruiting success. In fact, I thought it might have been even better than it has been so far with NT getting in on some of the top 10 caliber high school players in Texas. According to my count she still has two more ships to give, so more good news is probably on the way.

Slink er never recruited many rebound transfers. I can only think of Escala transferring here from another university. Slinker was however not a bad recruiter in my view. She never recruited at the level of a WKU or MTSU in recent years but I think she out recruited our men's program for most of her long tenure. I think the new coach is recruiting at a level Slinker hasn't in many years. However she obviously must get it done on the court in a tough WBB conference.

Destini transfered to Kennedale.

Yes, along with her entire family when her father became head girls basketball coach in '06. He coached them to the 3A semi's in only his second year there this past spring. The Hughes' family has several kiddo's coming up and they all play basketball very well so this would seem like a great pipline to have.

By the way, Destini carried a basketball around with her everywhere she went during school, never setting it down. During exams or anytime she had to use both arms for school work I heard she would hold the ball between her legs.

Crazy.

Kendrick Davis averaged about 5 a game as asophmore at Arkansas, Collin Dennis about 3 at South Florida, Keith Wooden less than a point I believe in his two seasons at Arizona St.

Hughes was an underclassman trying to find PT behind an upperclassman laden frontline. This is a significant step up in talent both for UNT and the SBC as a whole
