According to the Sporting News "Football.com" La Tech has a 5'10" 161 lb. defensive back named Evyn Roman. If true, he would have to sit out this season.

Does anyone else know anything about this ?

It's always sad when a fan favorite leaves. I bet he looks back on everyone here pretty fondly.

Yeah, I bet he loved being called "Hair" and being blamed for all of the passes caught on his 5-7 self.

He is La. Tech's problem now.

In all fairness, he was thrown to the wolves. He had no 1-A experience, and his first game he was in single man coverage against OU, mostly on All-American Malcolm Kelly. I think his confidence was shot after that game.

I liked him.

I personally like him as well. He played all out... and he had the Mendoza scheme working against him.

Yeah, he was thrown to the wolves by the DC last season. What I did like about him was how it never seemed like he was slacking on the field. I think some of you were really hard on this guy and it was probably a little uncalled for. Now, if he was 6'2" and giving up the pass, then by all means, pick on him because he should do better. That kid is crazy fast - his 20 yard shuttle run was 3.87".

Has it not filtered down to most, that with NT defensive scheme last year that anyone with less ability than Deon Sanders would not be successful. I hated to see Roman go, he played hard but was a victim of the worst defensive coaching in college football and one of the poorest blocking kickoff teams as well. I think most of you realize that NT lost Green, Chatman, Roman and Ealey before their eligibility expired. All were corner-backs. Yes, there was some garbage alleged by some of these players, but I think the root clause may very well have been the pressure of a defense that did not work.

I think he had a lot of potential. There are PLENTY of people that could have been called out for last year's defensive performance. I'd like to see any first year D-1 player take on Malcom Kelly in single coverage.

That is so true. We will miss him dearly.

You have to be kidding. I am sure he is a great person and I am not questioning his effort, but I think we have a few new DB's in the program that will make everyone that liked 'hair' quickly forget about him. I remember when our secondary had a lot of skill and was a big part of the 'glory days' of the Belt. The kids they have brought in might get them back to that level. Granted Mendoza sucked, but it's not like Roman never strapped on a helmet before the OU game. Just because he had speed and tried really hard doesn't mean he passed the eyeball test.

Roman, maybe, but I don't see the pressure of a disfunctional defense leading to calling coaches racist (Green/Chatman) or participating in criminal activity (Ealey).

Pressure and frustrations contributes to a lot of unwise actions. I guess you think it was just coincidental that NT lost 5 corner backs in one season. What do you think was the contribution factors that led to the racial controversy? The criminal activity I think occurred after the season and the player had already left the team, so I don't think it was a factor in his leaving the team. It seems to me that all this turnover could have been directly related to the poor defensive stradegy and coaching. Does it not seem strange to you that all three of the players that were involved in the controversy played one position?

What's up with the "hair" thing? Does that mean something offensive or what?

I've been using it as a racial slur - enrages the Chinese like you wouldn't believe.
