Shoulda taken the $20MM and called it quits. This is a waste of time and an inglorious way to go out... at best. He's not going to win anything this year with the Jets. Should have held out to be released to play with the Vikings or just stayed with Green Bay.

In other new, the Vikings are going to stomp a mudhole in that entire division this year... no matter who they play at QB. Funny how the Lions may end up with the best QB of the division. Who woulda thunk it?

If an old player still thinks he can do it and the team he plays for believes in his abilities, then by all means.....play and do your best to block out the doubters. However, Favre should have handled this entire situation in a more private manner with the Packers. I was not a fly in the wall, but I do feel that he brought a lot of this crap upon himself. Montana made a so-so Chiefs team a contender, I am sure Favre can made a crappy Jets team respectable. As a football fan I like watching the most talented players on earth play the game at a high level. This is a good thing for the NFL.

Don't doubt how UNT-related this is. A retired and bored Favre would have had the connections in place to become part of our AD

This is Mean Green football related because we have a 7 game history with Southern Miss going back to 1954.

Guess that is why it is in the Non-UNT Sports thread.

WHO CARES!!!!! I liked Brett as a Packer...guy has guts and had game, but he is "past history". Should have stayed retired. He will get KILLED behind that Jet line...just ask Pennington.

AGAIN...who the heck cares???? I am MUCH more interested in the QB at UNT! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!

---The original sin is this entire story happened 3-4 years ago when Green Bay chose Rodgers in the first round ...years before they should have. They needed RB, linemen, and especially WR help and they wasted a #1 pick to get a Favre replacement long before he was ready to retire. As a result they had to pay two starting QB salaries for all this time and got nothing in production for the second one. They may not have asked him to leave (retire) but no doubt he was getting the feeling he was no longer welcome. It also explains his comment years ago that "it wasn't his job to get Rodgers ready to play"..... after all he wasn't even close to retiring and letting him have his job. He was not happy then that they had not drafted him some help.

---Favre made a mistake by retiring (feeling the pressure to do so) and coming back but GB set it all up years (four drafts) ago. Their management are the actual bad guys here...

---One big mess by not thinking ahead. Even TV commentators thought it was as dumb choice when Rodgers was selected.... not because of Rodgers--- but because he was not needed at that time and they had other needs. I am surprised that this has not been mentioned much, if at all, by the media.

Prediction: Jets win more games than the Packers..... partly because they have a lot easier schedule and partly because Favre may increase their total by a couple of wins. ...and Rodger's inexperience will cost GB several.

Favre may help the Jets win a couple of more games IF he can stay healthy behind that wooful Jet offensive line. Yes, they made a couple of off-season moves to shore it up, but O-lines need time working together to gel, and this one, reconstructed as it is, has had no time to gel as a unit. Favre still has "game" and can play, no doubt about it, but he needs protection to be effective. may not get much from the Jets O-line. We'll see.

I still say...WHO THE HECK CARES????? Unless you are a Jets fan or a Packers fan, it is time to place this in the "trash heap" and get on with MEAN GREEN FOOTBALL.
