Patrick Cobbs was one of the few feel-good stories a season ago when he earned a spot as a fourth running back. Cobbs, a former NCAA rushing champion at North Texas, is giving coaches a reason to keep him again because of his special-teams play. Cobbs lines upon the first-team kickoff coverage unit and is the one Dolphin able to consistently beat double teams as a gunner on punt coverage. A logjam at running back gets more crowded.

Also...

RB Patrick Cobbs: He's not one of Bill Parcells' "guys" and he's a bit undersized at 5 feet 8. But last year's coaching staff fell in love with Cobbs' all-out approach, and he once again is making a case to crack the roster. Cobbs had a couple impressive runs in Saturday's scrimmage, giving defenders an extra "thud" at the end of each play. He also was impressive in special teams drills as the "gunner," working his way around two defenders to get to the returner.
