after attending the cookout and processing what took place, the best part of the evening for me was hearing coach dodge cycle through player after player giving their full name, position, and where they're from. i felt that the only reason he stopped was because he didn't want to go through the awkwardness of introducing riley in the same manner.

i feel that the players feel respected and appreciated by our head coach which will only lead to greater program success both on and off the field.

No, I don't know Dodge personally and I don't consider myself a "gullible fan," but I do realize that PHS Coach is highly critical of Dodge which leads me to believe that he doesn't like Dodge.

Moffat, I would think my point would be pretty clear, PHS Coach doesn't care for Dodge. I did make an assumption that PHS stood for Pierce HS in Richardson, home of DM

I don't think PHS Coach likes the players that came from SLC either.

Sorry but I think that RDodge is one of the finest players on the team I don't know many of the other SLC players that are still on the team

If that's wrong, then I apologize, I was basing it off a comment you made after I suggested the number of players attending voluntary workouts would increase because the number of DFW recruits had increased, you then said (roughly) if that's so, then where are the SLC players. That just seemed strange to point out one school specifically.

If he is from Pearce High School, then that's somewhat understandible. That's where Daniel Meager played and Todd did remove him from starting after four games to insert Vizza. I don't disagree with the decision but it shouldn't have been made so emphatic about going with one QB.

Funny what perspective does....being from Ft Worth, I always assumed it was Paschal. But growing up a Rebel (Southwest, that is), I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I guessed Pflugerville high School...the alma mater of a running we signed several years ago (name escapes me).

That's funny. My mom went to SHS and my dad went to PHS. I ended up at SHS too. Funny how much rivalry there is between those two highschools. My dad still to this day talks crap about southwest.

Remind me to thank FWISD for sending over SHS's crapastic assistant band director to WHHS. <_< The man almost ran the band in to the ground.

...its a little more than a coach defending one of his former players, guys. PHSCoach's last name also happens to be Meager.

Well, then my next question would be if PHSCoach will continue to support North Texas after Daniel graduates?

I would appreciate it if none of you guys 'call out' any of the family members of the players. Their direct allegiance is of course to their family member, but many of these people go to great lengths to support not only 'their' player, but the entire team.

In the case of Danny, the young man has been extremely loyal to North Texas amid being stuck in some really crappy situations. Despite being injured he was thrown into the starting position because Byerly didn't want to go to class. He played behind some really thin offensive lines, had Ramone Flannigan as an Offensive Coordinator, was always the scapegoat of that OC, and subsequently many of the fans. By his junior year there was a new coach that opted for a younger player with similar abilities halfway through the season; it's the logical decision for a building program but still extremely painful for the displaced player (especially after setting records with a 600 yard passing game).

I hope the player to remains loyal to the program and stays involved after graduation but I consider it a stretch to expect the same from his family. This being said, there are certainly parents that continue to be some of the most vocal supporters years after their son has graduated. (Shout out to Chuck Beck!)

I agree and apologize for the way my post appears to have "tone." I also respect Daniel Meager for how he has handled a tough situation for the last few years, and would understand how a family member could be bitter regarding this. I just hope we start creating fans of North Texas that will support the program and university for years to come.

I will add though, I find his negativety towards Dodge is biased because his son is no longer the starting quarterback. I have never called out a parent of a player on this board and wouldn't agree that my question was "calling out" Mr. Meager. This is a two way street and if he chooses to post negative comments, I will choose to remind people that is opinion may be somewhat jaded.

---PHS is West Texas means Permian High School... aka Mojo. who has won more AAAAA championships than anyone and played in about 10 finals. PHS is this case does not refer to Permain... I am absolutely sure. The only other school in Texas with Seven State championships is Brownwood. Both are West Texas schools.

---UNT would be smart to recruit a bit more from this area.... which they have not done lately... the last good one was Brewster (center) from Midland, started four years.

"The Plano Varsity football team has gone to nine Texas state championships, and won seven. Plano's seven championships were tied for most in the state along with Brownwood, Celina, and Southlake Carroll until Celina won its eighth in the 2007 season."
