Lord knows the Mavs don't need this guy. I mean, they were oh so smart to pass on giving up Josh Howard who doesn't scare anybody for Ron Artest who is a legitimate scorer and makes it stupid to double Dirk. Yep...more brilliance.

Rockets appear to be going all-in to bring another title home in 09. As a fan, this excites me. Sure he's a lunatic, but he's got the presence they need. Might just be the missing component.

Really a solid, top tier team now - but still needs a real point guard. I give them a 3 or 4 seed fo sho.

The only question now is whether Yao or McGrady misses 20 games first.

Won't be a contender until a guy by the name of McGrady is gone... Dude can't win

McGrady can't play with pain and Yao can't stay off of the DL with his case of "Walton Feet."

Agreed, but Ive got a feeling Morey isn't finished making moves. Rafer had a good year but I don't think they feel comfortable with Aaron Brooks as the #2 guard.

Also, adding Brent Barry was another decent move that didn't cost them anything but gives them the outside shooter for a few quality minutes each night.

As for McGrady, he's never had this kind of supporting cast. Again, Artest is a risk but I think it was a good move. IF (and that is a huge IF) they can be healthy when the playoffs come around, good things should be in store.

This is huge for Houston....I understand all the nay sayers and you're right....Yao and T-Mac are hurt too often but when things are together They are really good. I think this could be a year in which they totally explode. I know its funny saying that since they won like 50+ games last year. Artest is a huge boost for this thing....good god the starting lineup consisting of Alton, McGrady, Artest, Battier, and Yao? That is deadly. That is really along the lines of a top 2 team in the west in my opinion. Its crazy to think that Houston really did not give up that much to get him. A role player in Jackson, a rookie they drafted and a first rounder next year. I bet the Mavs could have done something without giving up Howard. In a perfect world the Mavs could have a traded for Artest and then possibly sent Howard to the Hawks for Josh Smith. To me that would be super deadly but oh well....one can only dream.

I read that earlier today and it only confirms that Artest is a nut. He is a heck of a talent though and would help any and all good teams wanting to contend.

Yep, this would confirm it:

“This is Tracy (McGrady) and Yao’s team, you know,” Artest said. “I’m not going to take it personal. I understand what Yao said, but I’m still ghetto. That’s not going to change. I’m never going to change my culture. Yao has played with a lot of black players, but I don’t think he’s ever played with a black player that really represents his culture as much as I represent my culture.
