I don't think there is a double standard at all. First off, without all of the promises, Dodge doesn't even set foot back on NT's campus. Dickey didn't have the "name" of Dodge coming in. He didn't have to be sold on a "stadium by x date" deal. You expect your employer to fulfill its promises to you or you leave, it's that simple.

I like this quote from the article TTG posted:

"I have nothing against junior college players," he says. "But I only want to recruit them for severe needs. Foremost, I want high schools kids from the area so their family, friends, buddies-whoever--will come see them and fill our stands."

Dickey talked, Dodge delivered, comparatively

NT vs ULM, ULL, MTSU, ARST(avg. score)

'01 32-14 +18

'02 28-8 +20

'03 41-23 +18

'04 33-19 +14

'05 21-23 -2

'06 7-24 -17

'07 29-35 -6

Did these teams get tougher or did DD get worse? Dodge did better against these teams in '07 than Dickey did in '06 and Dodge had the worse defensive coordinator in the nation. We are getting back the DC from the '01 and '02 years when we were holding these teams to under 15 or 10 points on average.

You can't hold much against Dodge as far as his players go just yet. The players he recruited were true freshman(freshman all-american QB anybody?). They must grow. He used players from Dickey's recruiting and developed them as well(freshman all-american LB and all-american WR)? All-american WR? Is this the same guy that was stuck on the little used "green team"?

I don't think there is a double standard because enough time hasn't gone by. If Dodge starts the 2010 season at 0-5 like Dickey did in '01(when he was on the verge of being canned and before he realized he hit the sun belt lottery) and people are saying just a few more years, then yes there is a double standard, until then I think you should wait and see. I think the Deloach hire alone is worth 6 points a game on defense over Mendoza which would put us with a positive score differential over these 4 teams on average. If we can manage that, we'll have a 5-7 record instead of 2-10. I personally don't think we should finish less than 6-6 this coming season and I feel 8-4 is very possible.

I'll just go with what you said.

Good post,

Tasty I think you jumped the fence into some other lights that might have some double standards for any "old" vs. "new" coach, a new coach unless taking over a winning team almost always has a grace period.

But the double standard talked about on the blog was in reference to Dodge vs Dickey in regards to how they talk about UNT and the Facilities, here there is no double standard Dodge has been nothing but positive and Dickey was almost always bad mouthing the fans and the facilities. Dodge sells the program, Dickey whined about the program.

But I may be wrong to what you said, I read some but I could not Plumb it today.
