The Musers were discussing this on the Ticket this morning - why does Michelle Wie seem so determined to play on the PGA tour when she has never won an LPGA major tourney? In fact, I think the Musers said she has not won on the LPGA tour period.

What does that have to do with anything? I'm offended sir.

At the minute Michelle Wie is a JOKE...pure and simple. She needs to win on the women's tour before she tries her hand on the men's tour. This is STUPID and nothing...nothing more than a PR stunt. The kid has game, but she is in no way ready to compete against the men. The best player in women's golf at the time, Abnika, gave it a try and had no success.

Give me a break...does this mean that Tiger, Sergio, Justin, Phil, etc., etc. or some young and up and coming male should go play on the LPGA???? If women want to play on the men's tour let 'em tee it up at the same point and do awauy with the LPGA and let eveyone try their hand on one tour....I wonder how many would like to see that? Kind of like women's professional football.....

Sorry, I love women's golf and I love to watch it...the ladies have game and they can darn sure play....but let's stop this "MIchelle Wie" playing against the men just for PR sake...that's all it is...plain and simple.

OK, enough of my two-cents worth...just an opinion...

You improve by competing against better compitition. If you want to be upset at someone...be upset at the tournaments that are granting her the exemptions.

Completely agree, but she gets much better competition against her piers on the LPGA tour.

?

I think he means if you want to take your craft seriously, you hold yourself up against the best out there.

Is she doing this to be sexist, rich, or to hold herself to the highest level?

Okay, I see. The letter that Craig read this morning was pretty funny. Hope it make the Top 10 tonight so I can hear it again.

I am not "uset" with Michelle Wie...she has game...she just seems a bit "bold" in her own assessment of her game at this stage in her career. better to "do something" first, then tell the world you can compete again the best men in the world. Yes, the PGA and the tournaments should be responsible for this "circus"...and circus is what it is. If you want people to take you seriously, go out and compete AT YOUR LEVEL...win something and then "take on the next level". She still misses cut after cut (although did great in her last start until she forgot to sign her scorecard...that has happened to lots of folks on both the men's and women's tour...I'll bet she never forgets again!)...she has the game, but, in my opinion, her head is currently not in the "right" place to be taken seriously on the tour.

The tournament folks should be ashamed of making a mockery out of the great sport of golf by allowing this circus to continue.

I do hope she continues to develop her game...she could, one day, be one of the best ever...but, I'll predict a "flame out" if she continues to havemore ego than actual game and continues to talk more than play.

I do wish her the best...her father, however, should be taken behind the barn for a good "old fashioned" rear-end whipping for allowing this to go on....he's probably promoting it as he sees only $$$$$$$...and not waht may be best in the long run for his daughter....prime example of a "Little League Dad" gone too far!

Just me!

I'm not sure how you fault Wie here. To us golf is a game, but to her it's a career. Given she's nowhere near the best female golfer in the world, but because of the path she/her parents have chosen she is among the wealthiest and most well known. The tournaments she enters are either put on by on of her sponsors or so spare that they need any boost possible to gain attention....or both. Sure, in a perfect world she would just say "Screw the money and exposure. At this point in my career I need to forgo fame and fortune in order to hone my skills by playing exclusively on a tour that 90% of sports fans couldn't care less about." She's exactly the same as every athlete that leaves college before their skill set warrants it. It's all about money.

Yes, I do understand the "it's all about the money" thing, but in this case Michelle Wie and her parenets are not low-income folks trying to eke out a living working three jobs and barely making ends meet. These folks have lots of CASH! Lots of other ways to boost tournament $$$$ and attendance without turning the thing into a circus. The Nationwide tour has done a great job of promoting itself and raising purse $$$$ without being a circus!

And, where did I fault Michelle? I fault her parents and the tournaments....who are both using her for their own personal agendas. Like I said, she appears to me to have the skills to become on of the best female professional golfers EVER...but, at the rate she is going, I think there is an even chance that she "flames out" and becomes an "also ran". I hope not, but I think she is heading in that direction unless she gets that "biiger than life ego" of hers in check and her parents come to their senses.

Poor they are not! In this case...while the $$$ is important...I think ego is the bigger motivator...styarting with her Dad!

BTW, I do not recall Tiger EVER saying or acting this way when he was 17-18, etc. Say what you want about Tiger, like him or not, he spent some time winning at each level of his development BEFORE he went on the PGA tour! I think Tiger's dad and Mom were a bit more "grounded" and wanted Tiger to develop as a person as well as a great golfer.....

Again, just me......let the different opinions flow....

So you're anti-capitalism?

My post wasn't directed towards you, and I realize you didn't fault Michelle.

As far as I'm concerned giving Wie a sponsor's exemption is the same as giving it to John Daily.

You say you don't remember Tiger acting this way. How is she acting? If you're referring to her tantrums on the golf course then Tiger still acts that way. We all know Tiger is total greatness, but after a bad shot he's the biggest baby on the tour, cursing on national TV, slamming cubs against the ground, or throwing them at his caddie.

As far as Tigers parents go, you might want to do some research on Earl. Now that he's passed on he's spoken of as a wonderful man who instilled an attitude of perseverance into his son. When he was still around it was quite the opposite. Tiger had his youth stolen in just the same way as Michelle, only without the $$$$$$.

Green Mean....much more attractive "targets" on the LPGA than Michelle Wie, but to each his (or her) own! Like I have said before...when you start culling you are way too old! I am not culling!

I always had a little thing for Annika and the pink panther Paula Creamer.

I don't know about Annika, every time I look at her I always think......possible mustache?

I'm sticking with Natalie Gulbis

Keep any and all student athletes out of this...from any level of competition...and I'll keep it open 'til it gets out of hand.

If they want better ratings maybe they could try playing topless. Because of that very ploy....I'm changing my vote to this sweetheart.

And now we see that Michelle Wie is playing in the LEGENDS (I guess she has given up on playing with boys her own age) Reno-Taho Open in stead of trying to qualify for the women's british open. Interesting to say the least. I personally hope that she misses this cut too, and that she will finally try to make a go of it on the LPGA. She has the talent and game to be one of the best LPGA players ever, but I am not sure she has the mental part of the game (yet) to allow her to be successful anywhere except in her own mind.

Shame on the tournamnet sponsors, the PGA and everyone else involved in this circus. I think Hunter Mahan should go play in the women's british open. Hey, if it is good for the gander, perhaps it is good for the goose! Besides, Hunter may be exilied to some "far off tour" if he keep saying things publicly that he might need to keep a bit more pivate. Man, his comments about the Ryder Cup were "spot on", but I'll bet he takes a beating publicly for them. Ouch, what do you think he will say/do should he move into a top 8 spot and get an automatic berth in the Ryder Cup? I'll guess right now that he is NOT a captain's pick should he stay below the automatic eighth place. Hey, gotta hand it to him for speaking his mind, but he might need to think a bit first next time.
