Horton was expected to make an immediate impact for UNT after finishing with 11 tackles for loss among 80 total tops for Northwest Mississippi last season. The former high school All-American spent two seasons at Auburn before transferring to junior college.

Wow. I don't know much about Horton's academic history, but two years at Auburn, plus a year at a JC, and he couldn't even get his associate's? An A.A. is not much more than a glorified high school diploma.

What I don't understand, and I am not pointing to anyone specifically, is how some of these guys who have immense talent on the field and have an opportunity to go to school for free, don't make the grades. If it were me and I had a free ride or at least a partial scholly, I would be working my butt off for the chance to play D1 football. You have to have some smarts to play football don't you?
