Leaning Tower of Vizza

You have to feel for North Texas quarterback Giovanni Vizza. Last season he was named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year after throwing for 2,388 yards. This year? The Mean Green have a new head coach, Todd Dodge, who was able to lure away a stud passer who had originally committed to Texas. Dodge's recruiting trick: he's the kid's father.

If Vizza can beat out Riley Dodge this autumn, you have to admire him. Actually, you have to admire him simply for not transferring.

Non-BCS teams can still pack a big punch

I'm not surprised Vizza didn't transfer....where would he have gone?? He shows great promise at the position but I don't think a bigger school was knocking at his door. Baring some accident or dumb move, he'll be taking 95% of the snaps this year (Meager the other 5) and maybe some snaps the year after.

Sounds like Dodge came in over the offseason and was looking to replace Vizza.

Whereas we all know that Dodge was a new head coach... LAST SEASON and is the one who recruited Vizza and started him as a true freshman.

That's some quality writing!

Thats why they get paid the big bucks!!

Why let facts get in the way of a story? Its easier not to know what you are talking about.

Giovanni could have gone to numerous schools with better football tradition and exposure than UNT but his relationship with Dibrell and and Coach Dodge sold him.

He could have easily gone back to his full ride opportunities in the WAC or Conference USA or even any of the acadamies, especially after what he did last season after playing under extreme conditions (no OL with any experience, no running game, new system) and a completely unproven college staff except for a few. Not to say, he was only months removed from High school.

I disagree he couldn't have gone somewhere else. If you ask our old HS staff, they would beg to differ (our coaches got the Riley card thrown at them all the time, to make Giovanni reconsider). He would only be human to give some thought of leaving to play elsewhere to AVOID the distraction for 3 more seasons. But he doesn't back down from crap. Don't count him out in 2009 and 2010. Riley Dodge has not played one snap of college ball and UNT is on the other side of the field from the types of teams SLC played.

Riley took very few big shots in his day, and one that did, took him out of the playoffs. If Riley hadn't played at SLC he would just be another very good QB, with a lot less media hype. I am not saying Riley won't win the job, just don't think he is the chosen one.

Put Giovanni under a steady OL with a little experience and watch out. He is the ultimate gamer.

We have Autumn in Denton. It is usually on a Tuesday and last for about 30 minutes, then it is winter.

The only problem with summer in Denton is that July last until mid October.

Is there really an "autumn" in Texas anyways?

Summer and Winter only ? I bet it's damn hot in Denton in July :)

If you were a photographic hobbyist in Texas, you would buy a "Texas Parks and Wildlife" subscription and read their occasional features on good places for autumn foliage pictures in Texas. Yep, it's damn hot in Denton in July, but have you ever been on the East Coast when it's hot...experienced the heat, along with greater humidity and less wind? I hate hot weather, but other than the Houston area, would prefer most places in Texas to most places along the East Coast when the temps get above 90. I'm sure there are places in Tennessee that can be pleasant, especially in the eastern part, but one week in the Louisiana summer was enough for me.
