Some program's media relations directors nominate players, while others have more input from the coaches.

Louisiana-Monroe, which closed the season strong and returns a wealth of talent, nominated 14 players. On face value that would suggest that the Warhawks should roll right through the Sun Belt. Perhaps they will, but 14 all-conference players?

Arkansas State, which lost its entire secondary, nominated 13 players. Guess the Red Wolves will be among the league's elite as well.

Troy also nominated 13 players, including four offensive linemen. No way will all four make it, and in fact, by putting them all out there, it might cost a player preseason accolades. The voters aren't going to name all four to the team, and in fact, the votes will probably get split.

Florida Atlantic nominated 13, which seems to be about right considering the Owls are the defending champions and return more starters — all all-league players — than any team in the league.

Florida International, which won one game a year ago, nominated 11 players, including four defensive backs. C'mon!

Louisiana-Lafayette submitted nine players. The Ragin' Cajuns always have talent, but they haven't translated it into enough wins of late.

North Texas nominated six players, the fewest of any team in the league. The Mean Green, like MTSU, seem to have a better grasp of things.

Middle Tennessee, meanwhile, nominated seven, and quite frankly, only Desmond Gee — a two-time all-league pick — is likely to get any preseason love

Let's play "Name the Nominees"

Fitzgerald

Vizza

Robertson

Bush

Drake

Spenser

Anyone want to bet against me?

I'm in for this one...

Fitzgerald - (no brainer)

Mosely - (All pre-season publications say he is a difference maker for us this year)

Vizza - (most mags say Riley Dodge is in the saddle, but I'll go with a talented QB who showed his metal last season)

Drake - (no reason to doubt a center who was our best OL last year)

Santiago - (a right guard at over 300 lbs and plays mean... gets my vote)

Robertson - (OLB with safety speed, and yes... he WILL be blitzing)

Possibles: P-Truman Spencer, DT-Joe Miller, MLB-Tobe Nwigwe, WR-Sam Roberson.

GMG!!!

The names of the nominated players were not published, and will be announced only

during the SBC "Media Day's" event to be held in NO in two weeks.

Here are my guesses on the "Pick Six" the NT coaches made.

#1: WR, Casey fitzgerald --100%, All American Receiver. Easy guess.

#2: QB, Giovanni Vizza-- no brainer, SBC Freshman Player of the Year in 2007!

#3: LB, Craig Robertson-- made all conference after he became a starter during mid season!

#4: OC, Kelvin Drake-- 2nd team all conference, played on a bad ankle injury LY. Now he is healthy!

#5: P/K,Truman Spenser-- best punter in the SBC, or maybe in the country!

#6: DT, Joesph Miller-- 2 year starter, vetran, bigger, stronger, ready for break out season ?

Honorable mention possibilities.

RB Micah Mosely

WR Sam Dibrell

S Kartey Agbottah, this is my sleeper guess- he just may be one of the pick six.

New questions for you. Last year Coach Dodge took one player to the Media Days event. Do you

remember who that player was? Next, which player or players will go with Coach Dodge for this years

Media Days event?

He brought Chapman, and I would guess that Fitz will make the trip this year.
