With recent announcment of scheduled games against SMU and ARMY I was wondering which opponent do look forward to playing most?

Both will be good for attendance, I'm glad to see SMU back on the schedule. It's a good local rivalry, with little travel cost.

But I'm more stoked at the series against ARMY. The service acadamies always draw well, and with the return game in West Point, it gives me a chance to see a game there (something I've wanted to do for awhile now) . I've already told my wife we'll be taking a vacation to New York in the fall of 2010.

Thoughts??????

Locally the SMU series is better for us. Nationally the Army series. With Army it's greater national exposure against a team we can be competitive with. (Rather than national exposure against someone like OU.) Both SMU and NT need to continue to improve if that series is to have any fundamental effect on either of our programs.

SMU they are the closest thing to a rivalry. We need a team we look forward to playing each and every year. If not SMU then bring back NMSTU!

Kind of an apples/oranges comparison, but I guess I would lean toward SMU. I see the SMU game as being a true rivalry. Playing the academies is an experience, but I can't imagine NT and Army ever viewing each other as heated rivals.

As long as both teams get better and the series does not get lopsided UNT/smu could develop into something pretty cool.

ARMY! SMU will have a renewed interest in UNT when we have a couple wins against Army under our sunBELT!

Oh, it's a coin toss. I'll have to give the edge to SMU given the attention they are getting with June Jones and it being a local rivalry.

I will give it to the SMU series. I may be in the minority here, but I do believe with the money SMU seems to be committed to in pumping into their football program, it is just a matter of time before JJ has that team winning again.

Both series are important. SMU influences DFW recruiting, and its a rivalry game. It also gives legitimacy to UNT as a sports 'destination' for the casual DFW spoooooorts fan.

Army is a 'name' team that also gives legitimacy to UNT as a sports destination for the DFW-area could-be UNT fan. They also spell 'tradition' in the minds of many college football fans, and big kudos to whoever got this done. UNT should play the SA's every year or two, and SMU every year or two.

Great progress as far as scheduling goes.

I think that the Army series has more impact because it is happening sooner. It is hard to say what the landscape will look like when the time actually comes for us to play SMU. The possibility exists that the contract will have to be thrown out because we are in the same conference. I am not saying that the series is not a great idea, but in terms of impact today, it has to be Army.
