Could we create a mailing list or put an ad in the paper? There were a bunch of students from Houston when I was in schoolat unt in thr dark ages surely there still is. I know there are a ton of alums there.

Anyone know the status of a NT Exes chapter in Houston?

well from my understanding its the "Gulf Coast" chapter... which seems pretty non-specific (covering an awful lot of ground) in a city as large as Houston. Hard to coordinate events between people living as far North as the Woodlands and as far south as La Marque. There should really be a specific chapter for people that live in or around the 610 loop (ie: Houston proper). I think that would do a better job of bringing in younger alums who are going to be the people with less obligations that can more-easily attend events.

I've lived here for 4 years, couldn't tell ya what happens with the Exes chapter. In fact, I know more about the Texas exes chapter because they are constantly holding events like monthly happy hours that encourage young people to get involved. I mean, maybe it's my fault for not making an effort to "seek out", though Im not sure how well any organization does that doesn't actively recruit new members or make effort to retain old ones.

I am member of the Denton chapter, and I wish I could say we were being contacted for events. there has only been a handfull since the new administration came aboard. The answer other people got about chapters in other aereas, was you have to start them your selves, or something like that. There is a NTEXES website, where you can sign up, and search for chapter info, if there is not one then find people living in H-town and give them a call.

I am a exes member but have received no mailings about events. only what i read about on here is how i know the exes may exist.

My post was not meant to be an incrimination of the Exas, rather a starting point for some creative ideas on how we could promote the Rice game in Houston with the many alums we have there. With print media advertising rates dropping it would seem like a good chance to get the word out in Houston. It needs to be done farily soon though so we can get people to put it on the calendar. Speaking of which, when is the last time we had a game in Houston? It seems like it has been a real long time to me.

The initial intent of my post was not meant to bag on the Exes... it's just that it seems like those types of organizations are the ones that "mobilize" troops for games in their area.

I'd be happy to help with a grassroots campaign to get Exes (or others) out to the game. I've got several contacts for local mags and the sports radio station to get press out there for an event (if one was planned).

I live and work in NW Houston, Champions/1960 area, and have attended a few game watching parties at SRO near 610 & 290 but that is about all I hear about from the Execs down here. I know they had a scholarship dinner, but I didn't find out about it until the last minute.

I would be willing to work on an alumni list or even help with the Exec chapter down here. I'm not sure what area this chapter covers, but the Houston area alone is about as big as the entire Metroplex, so you can imagine the difficulty in getting people to become active when it covers the "Gulf Coast."

Is there a comprehensive list of UNT grads living in the Houston area somewhere? I'd be happy to sit down and call through it one evening or assist whomever is in charge of doing so.

Why not use this game to make a statement? You can bet Dodge will have a lot of Houston-area recruits out for this game.

There is a master list..I called on it a few years ago to try and get people to sign up for $30 and get their email addresses. Very rough reception. Got a handful of responses. Seems most of the people on the list are very old and not to apt to care about current UNT athletics. Bob Morgan and his wife had the list.

I'll be driving down there from Austin. I've got 3 tickets and my buddy is driving down from Frisco, and he has a ticket of his own. We need to outnumber Rice like we did SMU last year. We can make a CUSA statement that we outnumber them at their place.

I was there when we beat Rice pretty decisively in Houston back in '88. They didn't seem to like losing to 1AA North Texas and really didn't take it like men. Same year that we were robbed in Austin. Can't believe that it has been twenty years.

Wow. The natives are restless! :P There's too much to respond to here. As a de-facto member of the Gulf Coast Chapter board, I'll just say that the chapter is going through a leadership transition; unfortunately this has been happening at the same time as the leadership transition in Denton. We just had our first meeting with Rob McKinney last month, and we're just now starting to plan for the Rice game. So let me invite everyone who wants to be involved with the Gulf Coast chapter, or just wants to help out with planning an event (events?) for the Rice game, to a meeting next Tuesday evening.

When: Tuesday, July 1st, 7pm

Where: Double Dave's Pizza, Greenway Plaza area, 3879 Southwest Freeway (between Weslayan & Buffalo Speedway)

Please send me a PM if you are going to attend, or if you can't attend, but still would like to be involved.

Harry, I know you're not in the Houston area. I'd like to hear some more of your ideas. And can you pin this thread?

Harry, The Exes Alumni Association will be supporting the pregame tailgate event that Athletics will be hosting near Rice Stadium once the details are released. They’re also working with the alumni chapter down there on other possibilities, but nothing is confirmed yet. I’d also mention that they have just launched a new online social network for UNT alumni and friends, complete with a Houston Area Alumni group. To join, go to www.untalumni.net, register and then you can join any number of groups of interest. Once you register, you can then go directly to the Houston group and join it at: https://untalumni.affinitycircles.com/untex...7454/index.html Because they just launched this network a few weeks ago, the Houston group isn’t that large yet. But, I can guarantee that they will send an email blast about whatever ends up taking place around the Rice game. I would encourage you to spread the word about that new network. It will become a powerful tool for grad over time. With only one email blast, they’ve already seen more than 1,400 alumni register. Not bad!

one last bump - the meeting is tonight!

due to unforeseen circumstances, I am now forced to miss the meeting- which I truly regret. Will there be some sort of notes available on what the meeting covered?
