New UNT women's basketball coach Shanice Stephens has landed the first recruit of her tenure with the Mean Green. Brittney Hudson, a 5-7 guard from Sugar Land Austin who spent last season at Rice, confirmed Saturday that she is transferring to UNT.

Hudson averaged 3.5 points and 3.0 rebounds a game as a freshman at Rice. She will have three years left to play at UNT after sitting out the upcoming season.

Hudson was rated among the best players in state during her high school career.

There will be a full story with quotes from Hudson on her decision to play for UNT and her connections with Stephens that helped lure her to Denton in tomorrow's edition of the Denton Record-Chronicle.

Post your thoughts on the blog. Are you impressed that Stephens is off to a good start in recruiting early in her tenure at UNT?

Not overly impressed that her initial recruit will have to sit out a year before even putting on a Mean Green uniform.

Nothing wrong with a quality transfer. The article states that she was one of the best players in the state. Looks like a very nice pick up if she plays as good as she during high school.

Do you realize when she started recruiting? There is not going to be a lot of first tier recruits available when you have to start as late as Stephens. Getting a potentially big time transfer is great under the circumstances. The timing could not be better, NT is losing 4 guards next year and guard is really not a big need next season. As stated above, JJ has picked up some very good recruits this way, Dennis, Wooden and Davis. The fact that Hudson was rated the fifth best player in Texas a year ago, and will have three years remaining eligibility; makes this an excellent recruiting start for Stephens.

I'll have to wait and year and get back to you with that answer.

You'll have to wait a year to give an answer if you thought signing Wooden and Davis was impressive? Do you remember that they led the Mean Green to their first NCAA appearance in 20 years? Or do you need 2 years to digest that?

Unless if you closely follow womens basketball, I dont think anybody can comment accurately on this signing. All we are doing is going by what some writers have said. We will see in two years.

I have no idea how well this signing is. I am never really thrilled though when a player transfers after being that good in high school, but as stated above, we will see in two years.
