WTF!! I know Leach is the media coverboy, but is Tech really that good.

I don't expect them to finish higher than fourth in the Big 12 South, behind Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M. They might even finish behind Okie State.

I picked up a copy of DCTF at Hastings yesterday. Overall I think the write-up is good. There is one glaring error though. It calls the Rice game our "Game of the Year" (very debatable)....but it says that Rice leads the series with us 1-0.

I'm pretty sure we beat them in '88.......

I like the ad that we have in there, btw...

You are correct. In '88 we beat Rice 33-17 in our only meeting. Same year we beat Tech and lost the Texas on the infamous last minute TD pass reception.

There really hasn't been much hoopla made about this outside Lubbock, so your skepticism doesn't surprise me.

This is far and away Leach's best team. His offense has always been fine, but this defense is supposed to be the one that finally shows up and carries them over the top.

I'm in the believe-it-when-I-see-it camp, but look forward to seeing how much more noise they make this year.

Another error by DCTF keeps UNT from getting some good pub. DCTF is not as factual as they'd have you believe. I was at that Rice game, Scott Davis and NT ran and passed up and down the field on them all day. The Marching Owl Band (MOB) did a funny routine at half and was very good for a small, non-uniformed band. A cold front moved thru and the wind and weather turned bad in the 3rd quarter, but had a fun time anyway.

Why in the hell wouldn't those three from Tech be on the cover? Harrell was the national passing offense leader last year, Crabtree was the national receiving leader in catches and yards, and Texas Tech had the #2 offense in the nation, all of this orchestrated by Leach.

Number one means they're that good. Maybe we should take away Fitzgerald's All-American recognition because we weren't a very good team. If being #1 in the entire country doesn't warrant being on the cover of DCTF, then what does?

And how many years has it been since A&M beat Tech ?

I took it upon myself to email the managing editor of Texas Football Magazine, pointing out the UNT-Rice misinformation. Here's his response.

Phil,

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. That is a glaring error indeed, and I am especially embarrassed by that one. Obviously, printing once a year doesn’t allow us to go back and correct the change, but I’ll make mention on the site somewhere about the error.

Again, thanks for bringing it to my attention. We always hope feedback is positive, but we welcome these kinds of emails as much as the positive remarks. Thanks for your time.

Jake
