"Todd Dodge will have his son back under center when North Texas takes the field next year."

Not too fast ESPN. ESPN and especially Phil Steele do no research on Sun Belt schools.

Good article and good exposure for North Texas.

Don't pencil in Riley as the number one guy, just yet Phil or ESPN. Their just might be a player or two who might have a say in this deal. I bet the "crumbs" might have a little bit in the tank for Riley, come August.

I still don't think Riley will redshirt. I think after the dust settles, Riley will be the QB.

RV should be setting up a 2-3 game series with Colorado right now. If it's not two late. ESPN would show those games in prime time. Colorado vs North Texas; Hawkins vs Dodge.

Riley will redshirt there is no doubt about it, unless we are stricken with injuries at QB.

I don't see anything yet that indicates there is "no doubt"... quite the opposite from interviews and articles.

All the articles are complete conjecture, Riley needs to put on weight and heal up. Gio will be fine and you can count on it. The media loves a controversy and you should know that.

Riley will sit and help coach the system, unless there are massive injuries. It is just common sense.

I do find it interesting that we have a freshman all american QB here and no one in the media notices that whne talking about Rodge! I can't wait to get him on the field but seriously... we have two fantastic quarterbacks here, if either one of them starts i;m going to be really happy!

I concur with what the guy cutting my hair at the local barbershop said, "When you score 62 points and lose, it's not the fault of your offense". Riley has a good point that he's known "the system" so long, but Vizza has shown he's learned the system and can execute it against some of the best D1 college teams. It would be best for the team and for Riley if he did redshirt. Just my opinion.

Riley's first test will be July 29 in the HS All-star game in San Antonio. We'll see then how he's doing with the rehab. I expect him to redshirt this year unless we start 0-5 and need help.

Didn't Gio set the Freshman Passing record last year?

I don't think we will see Riley play this year unless injuries tied with a shot at the NO Bowl line-up. I don't think our offense will die without a string of injuries, if we do go 0-5 I just can't see it being a result of our offense. Now saying that our first four games out of the gate will be tough, Rice will not be a cake walk either. Now FIU as the fifth game had better be a win! If we were in our 3rd year with Dodge I think we may have a 3-2 record after a scheduled start like this, maybe a 4-1 in his fourth year.

So what do you expect out of the 1st 5 games?

I would be real happy with 2-3 start and I expect 1-4, and I secretly hope for 3-2 because I think it is possible with Dodge. Anything more is complete fantasy in my opinion but crazy things can happen. I do believe Todd when he says he goes out to win every game.

Two questions:

1)Just how many copies of articles would you sell if you were talking about this awesome father/son combo that is at least a year away...conjecture and sensationalism get responses (just ask Vito)

And possibly more importantly

2)Just how many days, minutes, hours, do you think any of these writers have honestly spent in Denton or in research about our football team? They see that Todd Dodge is the coach and that his son had an offer from Texas and write their stories based on that and not factual research.

From what I hear, it is already game on between the two young QB's and it's very clear who has the experience, strength, arm and who works his ass off. The players know and obviously the staff knows.

End of story.

I think the bottom line is that you have a QB with a year in the system at the college level and he's not doing badly...in fact quite the opposite. I don't think you replace a QB in this kind of situation.
