Pineapqlewiley has a thread on the Muts board with stuff from Phil Steele's magazine. Here's some North Texas comments.

North Texas signed the most heralded recruit for 2008 in Riley Dodge. Phil has him rated as the #8 QB prospect in the nation.

MT will host North Texas as their final game. However, the home team is just 2-5 all-time in this series and MT has never beaten North Texas in Floyd Stadium.

North Texas has only been shut out one time in Sun Belt play. That was against MT in 2006, a 35-0 bloodbath.

North Texas has an enrollment of 34,153 which makes it one of the largest colleges in the state of Texas.

North Texas signee Alonzo Horton is rated by Steele as the #31 best DE in this class. He played for Auburn in 05, went to JC in 06, and has now signed with North Texas. I have a feeling this guy is gonna be a headache for us.

By looking at PS numbers based on recruits ranks, North Texas blew the doors off of everyone else in the SBC. If I was motivated enough and averaged each schools PS # North Texas would be around 200 while the rest of the SBC would be around 300. You figure there's 120 D-1A schools, and on average lets say each school signs 4 D-linemen per year. That means that the #400 rated D-Linemen should be going to a team around the 100 range. That isn't the case with North Texas though. They got a lot of kids in the 100s and 200s. It will still be a few years though before they are actually ready to contend, but unless their coaching staff just sucks they are gonna win some championships and beat some big name teams if they keep bringing in that kinda talent. In my opinion, a lot will depend on what happens this season and next. If UNT has another 2 bad years, Dodge won't be so hot in Texas anymore and I don't think he will have the same appeal to recruits as he does now. He's still very fresh in the minds of Texas athletes and coaches because of the insane success he had at SLC. I wonder how long he's gonna be able to play that card.

2008 Projected Run Defense: #117 is North Texas

2008 Projected Pass Defense: #120 is North Texas

2008 Projected Points Defense: #120 North Texas

2008 Projected Total Defense: #120 North Texas

glad to see Steele did absolutely zero research to get his projected defensive numbers.

There is no way we will be below 100 in any of those categories or maybe I have to much respect for DeLoach and our young studs on defense.

Correct, zero research into the current situation. I'm not sure where our defense should be ranked, considering how much we lost from last year. But in comparing coaching experiences to auto racing, we just traded a 1928 Delage Torpedo for a 2008 Formula 1 Farrari so I'm thinking we have to fair better than #120th.
