Now you can not even cheer at a graduation without fear of being arrested.

Just plain sad Arrested for Celebrating

Should they have been arrested? No.

Should there be a little more decorum at graduation ceremonies? Hell yes. I drove by the last time UNT had graduation, and people were taking in signs to salute the grad that they were there to see. It's a freaking graduation...not American Idol.

Just my two cents.....

I COMPLETELY agree. Graduation is a joke wherever you go. Why not just wear Hawaiian shirts, do the conga into the building while "Copacabana" plays, instead of "Pomp and Circumstance", and pass out margaritas as you enter the door? How about acting like an adult and saving the screaming and "WAY TO GO, WILBUR!!" for AFTER THE CEREMONY?

I agree that graduation ought to be a classy afair...but...if it is going to continue to slide as it has...the above idea really doesn't sound too bad

You're just jealous because when they called your name, you could hear crickets chirping. I always felt bad for those people. :D :D

I can see both sides of the arguement...for me personally I do think its a bit odd acting as if you are attending American Idol or some TV show. At the same time, for many it may be the first time that someone in their family got a degree or something like that and they cant hold back. A stretch I know but I can see both sides though I prefer to be on the classy and conservative side of this arguement.

Yeah, well...that's beside the point...

My graduation was fun with people cheering for their grad.

One family brought an air horn. another brought cow bells. Another brought party favors and tooted when their grad's name was announced. My family made a deal with the 8 families around them to all cheer when their grad walked. It sounded like I had one of the biggest cheering sections. :D

It's an emotional day, and asking families to sit and be silent for the hour and a half it takes to announce all the grads is a bit much.

Bo Jackson's wife graduated from Auburn with my sister and he and his crew had banners, horns, whistles and they all sang the Ray Charles "you got the right one baby" from his Pepsi ad. It was awesome.

What was not awesome was all the other Alabama rednecks deciding this was their invitation to match the noise level when Cletus P. Judd got his degree next.

Last year in Galesburg, Illinois, five students were denied diplomas from the city's lone public high school after enthusiastic friends or family members cheered for them during commencement. Students could get their diplomas after completing eight hours of public service for the school district.

I'd be livid if this happened to me. But then again, when I graduated I already had turned in my transcript to UNT and had been accepted, so I really could have cared less.

I think it was alternating renditions of Dixie and Song of the South.

I hear this practice is still popular in some parts of Euless today.

Possibly even a better indication of this nation going to the crapper: News channels are reporting that Anheuser Bush is considering selling Budweiser to a German brewer and the famous Flat Iron building in New York may be purchased by an Italian company. Although, this is an old trend. I remember Mrs. Bairds here in Fort Worth being sold to Bimbo in Mexico? Some Bairds rolled in their graves for sure when that happened.

How about my company, who is a major U.S military defense contractor, being sold to an Italian defense company that is 40% owned by the Italian government?????? Americans will sell their own mothers for the right price. There's only one thing important in this country and if you think it's God, think again.

This may take the cake though of all time, or at least currently.

Supreme Court sells values down the toilet.

In a blistering dissent, Justice Antonin Scalia said the decision "will make the war harder on us. It will almost certainly cause more Americans to be killed."
"I am deeply disappointed in what I think is a tremendously dangerous and irresponsible ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court. ... The court has conferred upon civilian judges the right to make military decisions. These judges have virtually no training in military matters yet civilian judges, in some of the most liberal district courts in the country, will have an opportunity to determine who is a threat to the United States."

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

Incredibly disturbing how soon some forget.

way to many activist judges on the court right now, very sad in deed.

On a lighter note gotta love the Utah town that banned bikini's as well as passed an ordinance for a natural family in which the mother must stay home to be with the kids.

Gotta love the Nanny state butting in everywhere. <_<
