Channel 5 is showing live video from their tower on broadcast hill, which is just down the street from my station. A huge fire is racing across the north end of Gateway park, headed for East 1st and Beach.

A reporter on Channel 11...said that there was a national softball tournament being held out at the park.....and they had a FIREWORKS show tonight. What kind of morons think a fireworks show is a good idea with 40+ mph winds in the area?

Anyway, the early word is that they suspect that the fireworks caused the grass fire.

Yeah, it was the Team USA exhibition game tonight. I had hoped to go but couldn't get away. The last time they did this there they had an estimated 10,000 fans in attendance at Gateway. But it will be fun to find out who authorized the fireworks show. Looks like they got it under control after about 45 minutes. At one point they were talking evacuation of homes north of that location.

At least when I go back there will be several acres of forest I won't have to go climbing through. :D

I wondered when I heard it on the news if it was close to you.

Oh, I knew it alright. I just couldn't go.

If FFR had been at that game with Jennie pitching....the fire would have been caused by "pants friction."

Very nice. Thanks for the laugh.

So, FFR...just why did the fire marshall on site give the go ahead for the fireworks in that type/amount of wind? Maybe he too was "excited" abut Jennie Finch pitching and had his mind on something else. How much trouble is the guy going tobe in for that call? My guess is that he/she had some "pressure" for the event organizers to go ahead. What do you think? Any "discussions" about this around the firehouse these days? My experience has shown that these guys make the proper call the vast majority of the time...not even sure this wasn't the right call at the time, but perhaps conditions changed for the worse after the go-ahead was given. Any "inside" scoop on this one???
