Does Fouts really keep people away or does or schedule have a major role in not keeping people in the stands. We play zero homes games in Aug. ok thats fair, its hot. Sept we play one game. Oct we play one on the 4th and one on the 25th. Nov we play one on the 29th. Not much continuity in building attendance. LSU plays home games on Aug 30th App St, Sept 6th Troy, Sept 13 NT, Sept 27 Miss St, Oct 25th Georgia, Nov 1st Tulane, Nov 8th Ala, Nov 22 Ole Miss, Tulsa Plays home games Sep 20 Mew Mexico, Sept 27 Central Ark, Oct 4th Rice, Oct 18th Utep, Oct 26 UCF, Nov 22 Tulane. Kansas st plays home games Aug 30th NT, Sept 6th Montana St, Sept 27 Louisiana La, Oct4th Tex Tech, Oct 25 Oklahoma, Nov 15 Neb, Nov 22 Iowa St. Thats 8 home games, 6 home games and 7 home games. We really need to be playing more home games and not just 6 home games.

It's both.... more so the conference we got punished to be in after we moved to 1-AA.

A new stadium would allow us the opportunity to be in a better conference and host better OOC and conference opponents.

We are lucky to even host FIU and FAU at our bleachers considering both programs will have better football amenties real soon.

We haven't had 6 home games in 10 years. That is a big part of the problem. Also, why can't we at least open the season at home for a change; even against a lessor opponent? Get the optimistic fence-sitting fans in for at least one home game before the sacrificial body bag games begin. Always easier to sell tickets to see an 0-0 team than an 0-1 team just back from a 72-10 beating.

7 home games is asking much for any program. It happens, but only with some luck and conference rotations falling into place.

*edit

Looking at LSU's schedules the past few years, I stand corrected.

We're not LSU, but I will agree that we should expect more than 5 home games.

Like said before it is the crickets!

Fouts itself is not the problem, not that I would not like a much better new stadium. It is our record, conference and teams played at home, lack of school spirit, and pride. Plus that stupida$$ed Saturday game after thanksgiving that all play a part in our attendance problems.

That is it; teams played at home.

Can't wait to have six home games, hopefully we can play better OOC opponents... I remember one year we played Nicholls State at Fouts, how fitting.

I know you don't want to play Nicholls st, but they look like they enjoy traveling. They only have five home games scheduled for 2008.

I go to the games because I support the Mean Green, but, for me, the schedule is the MUCH bigger problem when it comes to drawing fans...like many of us on this board have said...play a quality opponent/an "interesting and recognizable" opponent and folks WILL show up...Last year's navy game is a case in point. Great crowd and I did not hawer ANYONE complaining about Fouts before, during or after the game. There were a few comments about our defense...or lack thereof...but, no one was mentioning Fouts. Bring on navy, Army, Air Force, baylor, SMU, TCU...even Tulsa and folks will show up. Still can't get too excited about Fla Int'l, etc. I think the opponent is a much bigger factor thasn Fouts itself! But, we will have a new stadium soon...yes, Virginia, we will!

GO MEAN GREEN!

It's the schedule AND the current record. A 2-10 team playing against TXTech will doubtlessly attract fewer people than a 9-3 team playing against TXTech. Remember when we had Baylor and Navy, we had really good attendance. But there was more attendance for the Baylor blowout since the team had been more successful the previous year AND because Baylor is a team that's relatively close by.

I don't think it's the field, because people will pack into ANYTHING to see a team win, or in the case of a fictional 9-3 (previous season) UNT playing TXTech. I mean, think about how many music hows you've seen in more than subpar venues.

What keeps fans away, Fouts or the schedule?

I would say the schedule, and add to that, a winning team.

I do not mind going to Fouts for a home game at all, so the

stadium issue is not a problem for me. When North Texas

starts rolling over teams, more fans will come back!

Winning does cure alot of attitudes! Now if North Texas

could schedule the "regional" teams, more fans would

come the the games. Bring in teams fans want to see!

What ever happened to the six game deal with the phonies?

I've posted this before, but...we've has this discussion several times before. My answer is the same as always:

(1) Winning builds interest, no matter who you are beating (SEE Kansas State, Kansas, etc.).

(2) Therefore, schedule winnable home games instead of going out on the road to be pounded for cash. T

We do what whores do - we get pounded for cash. We are the whores of college football.

Who will use us next? Kansas State...a team who built their program up by scheduling winnable home games. The week after that, they will host Montana State. Then, they go on the road to play Louisville. Then, they return home for a very winnable game versus Louisiana-Lafayette.

Kansas State, August 30 to September 27:

-Five weeks, three home games, one bye week, on game in Wednesday (Lousiville) that will be on ESPN2.

This is their out of conference schedule. By dumb luck, they then open Big 12 play the following weekend, October 4th, at home against Texas Tech. So, that's six weeks, four home games - two back-to-back weekends of football.

Nice. Very nice. Given Louisville's level of disappointment last season, K-State could enter Big 12 play 4-0...2/3rd of the way to a bowl bid.

Not us. We'll be whoring away, getting pounded on the road, and trying to get enough wins in the Sun Belt to salvage the season.

<sigh>

All I want for Christmas is a new athletic department mindset.
