College Board

I think this may be what you're looking for. I have it open to the North Texas page but it has the official designation for every college.

Just type in the college name in the College QuickFinder box.

It has a lot of interesting information on each school including student demographics.

North Texas is listed here as "residential" campus.

So is Baylor, Texas A & M, and S.M.U.

Oddly, Texas and Texas Tech are considered "commuter" campuses.

I've never heard anyone refer to Texas or Tech as a "commuter school."

Because they don't know what the **** they're talking about. It's pretty difficult to have student populations like Texas and NOT have a majority of them coming in from out of town. Besides, in that area, there aren't as many major schools as there are here, so if you're living in Round Rock or Georgetown, you're basically limited to that school. Alternately, people living in the Waco/Killeen/Temple area that can't afford Baylor or don't want to be killed when they join the basketball team often choose UT, some of which actually still commute from Killeen, and those that live in Waco choose an outlying town near Austin.

I remember reading this the first time this topic came along and wondered how in the world Tech could be considered a commuter school. Commuting from where??? I finally figured that larger schools having fewer dorms forced more students off campus but not commuting from a great distance. Believe me there can't be more than a handful of Tech students traveling more that 20-30 miles to school but there are a lot of apartments/student houses nearby.
