Not a bad day! Does anyone ever fish a Lake Richland Chambers? I went there about a week ago for the first time and caught more fish then i could count. Me and my girl both limited out on sand bass and caught a few hybrids each! Never been to Tawakoni, but I am supposed to go there in about a week with my dad....

I fish both lakes. Both are very good for sandies, stripers, hybrids, catfish,

during the hot summer months. Just follow the shad, find the channels

and humps by deep water, and you are set!

I like to drift live shad over the humps and in the river channels, or use

'slabs' just off the bottom, and jig head soft plastics (minner/shad) when

schooling actions starts. One thing about Tawankoni, when the schooling

action starts, I have caught numerious blue cats on the live shad and on

the soft plastics, by fishing under the surface schooling fish. One day at

Richland Chambers, I hung into a big flat head catfish on a chartuse

slab fishing for hybrids. Got the fish up several times, but just too

much pressure on the light tackle, and the fish broke off.

Something new I learned- during the hot months, is when the fish

(especially strippers) are showing just off the bottom, and deep, try

this. When using a "slab" bait, do not jig or yank the lure hard, but,

try to keep the lure still will little movement, just a inch or two off

the bottom. Try to "flutter" the bait alittle bit. Be sure to hang on to

your fishing rod because some of the strikes are vicious!

Great box of fish, FFR, but I usually throw those size back into

the lake.

Never fished Tawokoni, but I grew up water skiing out there. It's such a shallow lake, that in late July and August, you really don't get any temperature relief when you jump in the water. You could literally pee in the water and not be able to tell a difference in the water temperature. :D Now if you dive down about 10 feet you can maybe get to the lower thermal layer, but with a Life Jacket on, you pop right back up.

I don't know where most of you live, but I recommend Lake Ray Roberts for sandies, catfish and black bass. And as for camping, you really can't beat the facilities there..... http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findade...y_roberts_lake/

I recommend the Isle du Bois and Johnson Branch units. If you need a pontoon boat to rent, they have a good marina there..... http://www.rayrobertsmarina.com/

Or, you can contact me via PM.

My record on LRR is 71 sandies.

This is our family's favorite lake, as well. We were up there Saturday, and the lake level is as high as I've seen it in 2-3 years. Looks good. Isle du Bois is back in shape, and if you haven't been to the beach in a while, they have expanded on many of the picnic pads and added a few covered ones, as well as more grills. Lots of fishermen and skiiers out there last weekend, but not too crowded.

Crappie fishing is good on this lake, as well.

EDIT: And if you're just taking the kids, and live in the Metroplex, Cedar Hill SP is a great place to take 'em to fish, as bank fishing doesn't require a license...
