I am sure that this is football related in some way. Today's print edition of the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram has a nice front page story with the title of "For Professors Old School Look Is Always In Fashion". It talks about the robes worn by university professors at graduation events. It shows two gentlemen from UT-Arlington in the robes from the Universities where they obtained their degrees. It also shows Dr. B in a pretty green gown. The story says in part....."The rules for academic costumes are are also old and complicated, but if you're a university president you can color outside the lines. President Gretchen Bataille of The University of North Texas sports a mean green gown and former University of Texas president Larry Faulkner had a costume designer work up a custom doctoral regalia in burnt orange." That is some nice positive publicity for our school at a time when we could use it.

Please don't read anything into this. But does someone think we're in danger of losing Dr. Battile ? It seems every couple of months or so, the BOR feels the need to give her a raise. She's got $350k, a car, housing allowance, and another raise coming up soon. Seriously, are we in fear of losing her ?

They probably realize that she has provided a great deal of positive publicity plus $$ coming in and she's worth everything and more than she's making now.

Nice. Battaille gets an $18,000 (her second this year) and a $45,000 bonus. Meanwhile, the rest of the UNT employess have been promised a 1% cost of living raise and possibly a 3% or so "merit" raise IF the board approves it. Glad she is doing so well.

If only there were some sort of socio-economic system in place to make sure everyone was paid the same amount of money for their contribution to community. Then we could really start moving towards an educational pancea.

I agree she is making bank while the solders are fighting and clawing for 3% merit raises but I also have to give her props for working her booty off. Is it equitable? Don't know.

Thanks for the socialism insult. Remind me to beat you with my statue of Reagan next time I see you.

It wasn't meant as an insult... just a terse, sarcastic attempt to make a point. :)

She works hard for the money... hard for the money... she works hard for the money so I'm glad they treat her right.

Thank goodness I was never paid what I was worth. If that had ever happened I would have had to see about getting food stamps for my family.

Underrated post.

Especially since I don't make jack crap and am probably still paid more than I'm worth.

I expressed my opinion to you guys earlier that Bataille is the real deal. Everything she has done and is doing seems to bear that out, IMO.

Talent like this at the presidential level commands a high salary in the market place.

I'm not surprised, but I'm still amazed at what top administrators can make these days. We are bringing in a new provost from the U of Arkansas, and I did a double-take at what he is going to pull down.

I think Bataille is worth every penny, as I think is she is the entire package, which is just what UNT deserves and needs. As a taxpayer and Texan, I want my universities to be doing the best they possibly can.

Umm actually UNT Human Resources is currently doing a salary study which should increase a lot of employee's pay. This study had to be approved by Bataille. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

I do not think we are in danger of losing Dr. Batille at this point, but someday...ABSOLUTELTY. I think she is preparing herslf for an eventual move. But, much like Coach Dodge, it will be great having her/them both here while we can hold them. They both appear to be "hot commodities" in their own professions. That is a good thing, and says a good bit of positive things about UNT. Dr. Batille earnd every cent of her salary. I wonder if she has had a day off since coming to UNT? This lady shows up EVERYWHERE! Saturday, Sunday...no matter, she is working. She travels for the University, gives after hours and weekend talks, visits team events, AND tries to re-shape UNT from a "teaching" to a "research" university. She has already upgraded some admin and faculty positions (although one an question some of the new positions being created for more VP's), and she is looking for ways to improve and upgrade across the board. Not comfortable for some faculty and admins right now, but it is moving UNT upward and forward.

Congrats to Dr. batille, she heads up a multi-million dollar operation, and earns everthing she is getting...and then some. It takes $$$$$ to hire and retain top leaders in any field.

I want the pilot of the airplane to make as much money as legally possible so the best want to be there. It's my life and their's at stake. We both have a lot to lose.

Go Dr. B.,

Go UNT!

Some seem to think it is OK or imperative that head football coaches get top dollar, but have issues with university presidents making far less money. There is no question which is the most important position, yet some bemoan a college president making $350k and at the same time applaud institutions that are paying head football coaches multi-million dollar salaries.

There is no equity in salaries and probably never will be, but frankly college faculty come in at near the bottom of my list for occupations I worry about being under compensated.

I apologize for expressing my thoughts. It will not happen again.

As I understand it, the purpose of a message board is to exchange thoughts, opinions, speculation, homerism and the occasional tid-bit of factual information... so there's nothing wrong with a few people disagreeing on a given subject!

Another case of sarcasm blowing over someone's head.
