Long story, but worth the read:

From ESPN.com

You know I read that story this morning and yes I would give him a shot. In my books he did nothing wrong and everything right but just my opinion. Its a really sad story. Surely somebody or some school will give him some sort of opportunity whethere its in the college ranks or even high school ranks....atleast I am hoping that happens.

This guy DESERVES another shot. I have no idea if he can coach or not, but this is pure BS to keep him out of coaching. Someone should give this guy a shot at a D-1 assistant job...if for no other rweason than to make the point that integrity and character DO COUNT. What a bunch of "bums" the BB coaches are if someone does not give this guy a shot/job. Man, you can break every rule in the books and get re-hired somewhere else as a HEAD COACH for gosh sake, why not an assistant who DID THE RIGHT THING????? Man, this makes me ill!

Love that Coach K quote in there from 2003. Douche bag.

If one of my assistants would tape every one of my conversations with me not knowing it, there's no way he would be on my staff

You know, because it was obvious that he must run around taping all the time and not during a murder while working at a new job for one of the worst coaching human beings ever.

And hey Kram, this has never happened in the pros - jk

I meant to include this in my original post, but how in the hell does Bliss continue to work in coaching, with Athletes In Action no less!, while Rouse gets blacklisted? This is one screwed up system.

Midwestern State coach Jeff Ray says it all, "My philosophy is, you want someone to be loyal to you, you have to be worth being loyal to," said Ray, who has just one full-time assistant's position on his staff and would offer it to Rouse "in a minute" if it was open. "We're not dealing with phone calls or giving $50 to a kid; we're dealing with a murder and covering up an investigation."

There probably is someone reading this who does not know that Ray was an assistant to Vic Trilli in the last season of his regime.

Coach K is a prick. I don't know why the media fawns over him as the moral leader of college basketball.

Truth is though if I were a head coach with hundreds of guys begging for a shot, I'd look at someone else too.

I couldn't agree more. Pete Rose bets on baseball and lies about it, and is justifiably banned for life.

Bliss engineers a murder coverup that involves slandering the victim of the murder -- one of his kids, no less. If this doesn't qualify him for a lifetime ban from college sports, what would?

This isn't about Bliss...it is about a guy who "did the right thing" and got the shaft. The guy did not go around taping all the head coach had to say, this was about a murder cover-up! For gosh sakes, folks, get a little perspective. Let's see, it would never happen in the pros????? Hmmmmmmm...how many pro athletes are now in jail?????? Seems the Patriots did a little taping of their own recently...yes, a bit different, but taping none the less

Time to really think about what is going on here...if my kid was the one being attacked, I would darn sure hope that someone had the guts and the integrity to make sure the truth was known....the guy put his career on the line for the truth. In my book that says alot and that's the kind of guy I would want watching my back if I were a head coach. Yes, you can say he "ratted his head coach out" if you want to...I am not sure that's the real story at all. If you don't want to get caught cheating (or whatever), don't cheat! It's that simple. I got my first speeding ticket in about 25 years the other day..I was ticked at the Cop for giving me a ticket until I remembered that I was in 100% control of whether I got a ticket that day or not! It's called personal responsibility....THIS GUY DESERVES ANOTHER SHOT to see if he can coach! I hope some coach has the guts and the integrity to give him that shot.

And, why do some of you folks dislike Coach K so much?

Name one pro coach who has covered up the aftermath of a murder? Unless you equate Belichick to to Bliss? Outside of spygate, when is the last time a pro coach tried to cover something like this up? When is the last time a teammate killed a teammate. I have heard of teammates donating kidneys to save each other down the road, but nothing on the other end. If Bliss winds up in the NBA, then I guess we can revisit this entire thing.

Who are you arguing with about this? Who said they don't want him? We all agree, but your confusing capitalization and use of "..." is dividing us all.

Short answer: Because we follow college basketball and didn't go to Duke. Here's a fun read from an over-zealous Duke Hater: http://www.covers.com/articles/articles.as...;tid=29&t=0

That's like saying Dean Smith wasn't a great coach because he only won 2 titles with probably even more talent than Duke.

Oh, it was a stupid article to rile up the masses.

Bliss is under a show cause until 2015. Any NCAA member hires him and they automatically go on probation and get sanctions (possibly losing scholarships and post-season eligibility) unless they can demonstrate why he should be hired and isn't a threat to break the rules.

An education major, he never got certified to teach, intent always on coaching college basketball.

It would seem that Mr. Rouses' story is a series of bad decisions on his part. He's an education major and was in a graduate program as well. Surely he could have found one of the countless opportunities with state school districts to certify as "Emergency Status" and then worked his way into coaching in HS? It would have paid steady money and included benefits upon certification. The Dallas and Fort Worth I.S.D.'s have teacher shortages in the hundreds every August it seems. Instead he's tried to go against the grain somewhat in my oppinion. A great quality of his character no doubt, to continue to "TRY" and not give up. But sometimes you gotta drop back 12 and punt.

As for the lawsuit, am I reading that correctly that he let his attorney discuss the tapes to a newspaper reporter prior to them being handled over to the NCAA? Sounds like another bad decision right there? Why would you do that? If your willing to assist the NCAA in their investigation to try and right a wrong, why would you go to a newspaper reporter first? Maybe he reluctantly agreed to this by way of bad advice on the lawyers part, which would give merit to the lawsuit. But can you lay your hopes on gaining a million five from a lawyer on bad advice? Does anyone here think he has a case with what little has been given in this report?

Interesting.

---Sound like he has been making a lot of bad decisions (financial and otherwise). Why should he be hired as college coach... there are a lot of current high school and community college coaches that would like to coach at a university as well. They have experience, he has very little. Why would they hire him? If he really want to coach, trying getting HS certified and see what happens. I would start in a small school program and try to move up by being successful. He needs to face reality, perhaps he did the right thing, but that doesn't mean he is qualified for a college job.
