D'Antoni is a SPARE.

Bummer for Avery. Was against the Kidd trade and look how THAT turned out... hope he finds another good gig elsewhere

He will land someone - he is a good coach. Bad move by Cuban - but that is just my 2 cents.

Not a bad style. It's produced four NBA Titles in the past 9 years.

Did you know Dallas is the only Texas-based NBA team not to have at-least two NBA World Championships?

That is kind of embarrassing for Dallas!

Little Whistle is the problem and should be shown the door along with Johnson.

The Kidd/Harris trade was a fleecing and Dallas didn't come out on the good side either. Don't forget, Dallas gave away a couple of first round picks in the deal also. Cuban let's his emotions rule the day and that will be the ultimate downfall of this team.

The only part of the trade that I wish the Mavs had pulled back on is the 2 first round picks...1 should have been enough to get the deal done. Devin Harris was never going to develop under Avery...nor would he end up being any better than the 6th or 7th best point guard in the Western Conference...Steve Nash and Allen Iverson are on the downside of their careers but would still rank well above Devin for the next 2-3 seasons...Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Tony Parker and Monta Ellis are all comparable in age, but light years beyond Devin...add to that there is a good chance that Derrick Rose, Jarrod Bayless and O.J. Mayo all end up in the West...all of whom would be more highly regarded than Devin.

The Kidd deal was about winning now...and under the right coaching I still think this team could've done that...67 wins 1 season ago...NBA finals 2 seasons ago...all with the same pieces...what would suggest that adding a hall of fame point guard wouldn't push that group over the top? Hindsight is 20/20...and now not having those picks is prohibative...as is having a guy who was once thought of as untouchable by many (never me) to have completely self-destructed this season.

We effectively lost 3 first rounders (because we had to release Fazikas, who ended up with the Clippers). Then we have Kidd's 20 million contract for another year + the 20 million in luxury taxes. so we lose the ability to spend that luxury on another player with more upside.

So, I do see an upside if we could magically undo the Harris trade. At least then we could really trade him for a realistic amount..

And yes we had to release Fazekas but dont forget that Maurice Ager was a part of that Kidd Deal. So combine all this with just bad bad bad bad drafting the Mavericks have done recently.

Fazikas was a 2nd round pick who might be the most notorious wogger to ever step foot on an a NBA court.

Good point.. He was our first pick, but not the first round.

He could have been Carl Landry or Big Baby.

Also, Avery is now distancing: http://mavsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/20...kidd-trade.html

The genuineness of his statements are up to you.

Another gem by "the dildo".

I'm with Avery on this one. I don;t think he was the Mav's downfall any more than I do think he was their savior. I just think the fact that they won 67 with him at the helm last year gets overlooked. You can't have it both ways. Or can you? I dont know. Im sipping on FAIL soup, praying the Rockets make it to game 7.

Speaking of, quite a difference with ole Rafer and Hot Carl in there...

I agree. I think the problem with Avery is that he needs to be surrounded by guys who live and breath basketball as much as he does and dedicate themselves to the game. That is Pop's culture in SA (think about it - none of those guys seem to have personalities and go as far as to let Eva Longoria question their sexual prowess.) They are dedicated robots - which is great for fans of the team.

The Mavs where in that same mode when Avery got here, but as the young guys came in and the window started closing, the dedication was not the same and Avery couldn't reach through that. He was also badly out coached by coaches who had seen more than one system. Until this year, Avery had Harris as part of a larger staff to lean on to fill in what he did not know. He will continue to evolve an learn in what should be an excellent coaching career, but it will be interesting to watch how he handles a team that is not 100% on board with his message. Right now, he looks like a Ken Hitchcock type with about a 3-5 year shelf life followed by another move and another turn around.

As for the Rockets, as much as you know I dislike most of your team, I dislike Utah more. Good luck tonight!
