That article concerns me...unless they have another big man on the radar.

As much as I would like Vouyoukas b/c I think his style of play would be ideal for JJ's system...if the last scholarship goes to Andrew Davis, James Cotton or Cardell McFarland I'll still be satisfied. Davis and Cotton are 6'8" and athletic...unlike Vouyoukas though they project out as power forwards so at 205 they're a bit skinny yet...but there's time to add weight. I'd also still be on board with McFarland...with Johnson ahead of him you could bring him along slowly ala Jerome Rodgers...it'd be nice to have a four year point guard again.

If the last spot is for Thibideaux...I'm disappointed...not because I don't think hes a fine player, but because we don't need another undersized shooting guard.

This recruiting season has me so nervous...and this last scholarship decision is huge.

I guess McFarland is out.

I'm very surprised that the coaching staff didn't at least contact Vouyoukas.

I am too. How did his name get started on this board in the first place? Was it a Vito mention or a fan mention, just curious. I still think we need another tall body rather than just hold it for next year.

He had us listed on his recruiting profile on ESPN.com .

This was actually so funny.... I got myself so worked up over Vouyoukas thinking that we'd hear the announcement of his signing any day.... even checking this board repeatedly since this story developed.... turns out the coaching staff didn't even call him....

There's a difference between not being contacted and not having an offer on the table.

I'll be very sad if we hold this scholarship or spend it on a transfer that's not a big impact player. I've played up the Greek angle for a lot of humor, but there's no denying that a 6'9" kid who can shoot from the outside AND rebound when needed could really be an impact guy here.

6'9" on the wing creates so many mismatches... It would help compensate for a lack of bulk (not height, but bulk) under the basket.

Even if we were talking about someone named Alex Jones that had the exact same dimensions and skills, I'd love to see him on the court with Josh White (and Kedrick Hogans and Tristan Thompson) for the next 3 years. Transfers are great, but generally you only get them for two years. With a core like White/Hogans/Thompson/Vouyoukas for 3 years... Even without a pure point or a potentially dominating force at the 5 like Wooden, that's the core of a team with a lot to like.

I trust Coach Jones and I'm sure whoever he decides to give this final scholarship to will deserve it. If he's got a line on someone else, or if he just doesn't think Vouyoukas fits in here, so be it. I'm very sad I won't have a Greek to cheer for, but I'm not a qualified evaluator of basketball talent.

I do still hope to see Vouyoukas here next year, though. I'm not expecting it like I was about a week ago, but I'm still optimistic. It's not over until someone else accepts an NT offer or Vouyoukas signs an LOI with another school. According to what he told Quoner, he's not planning on making a final decision for a few more weeks. We'll see what happens.
