It may be a big day for Troy if they get another player selected in the first round but I doubt that does much for any other SBC school or NT. When a Marshall or UCF player is selected high in the draft I don't suddenly think "wow, UTEP's stock is rising". It is some validation that the league should be seen as legit 1-A, but then the next Jackson State player taken sorta minimizes that thought.

To you, no. To a recruit...

Again...i think it will be big for Troy's recruiting but lets be realistic, a recruit is not going to want to come to UNT to play because their conference dominator Troy has a first round pick. And chances are people don't even know what conference Troy is in and certainly that UNT is in the same conference as them. That is incredibly far-fetched.

Your incessant and unnecessary pessimism aside do you think it's impossible that Todd Dodge might say to a recruit "if you come to play at North Texas you can aspire to the NFL, we've sent players and a sun belt just sent a first rounder"? Or would that be too logical a leap for you to make?

Thank God Dodge doesn't depend on Troy or the Belt to recruit for UNT.

Who needs them when you have our own freakin potential?

The "woe-is-us" and "lets be realistic" crowd need some prosac or something. I like to think I'm having a damn good time in this little ol' metro, and UNT's history is eventually to be, well, history.

"conference dominator"??? Really??? On what planet?

Don't get the Troy fawning. Really don't. They dominate the SBC about like Boston College dominates the ACC. "Overrated conference disappointment", sure. Conference dominator? Don't think so.

I cant believe you would even ask this question. Obviously you have not been watching the past few seasons.

Perhaps you have a better suggestion then on who might be the dominator of the crap of a conference called SBC?

Troy didn't win the conference this past season. Calling them a "conference dominator" is giving them too much credit. They haven't sniffed the number of consecutive conference victories we had from 2001 to 2005.

I doubt most 18-year-old recruits know or care who's in the SunBelt. Not a selling point.

Who is in it, probably not. The fact that they went #1 in the draft? Probably so. Can you get there from here? Yes you can.

You can get there from anywhere. Two first round picks were from 1-AA.

And I think that's all anyone, Vito included, is trying to say. I really didn't take Vito's blog entry to say that the belt would be leapfrogging any BCS conferences any time soon...just that Troy's history of sending first rounders to the NFL allows Sun Belt coaches a concrete example or two when they say "You can still go to the NFL from here."

Dallas Picks:

one Big XII ( Aggie)

one Sunbelt (MTSU)

one Southeast (Arkansas)

one Big East (South Florida)

one ACC (Georgia Tech)

one WAC (Boise State)

Houston:

one Big XII (Texas)

one Pac-XII (Washington)

one Big X (Minnesota)

one Big East (West Virgina)

one Ohio Valley, I-AA, (Eastern Kentucky)

two ACC (Virginia Tech, both)

Lots of variety.

Are you serious? How many titles has Troy won exactly?

---Well if you don't have any respect for your school's conference (can apply to oneself as well) .... how can expect anyone else to have any??

That is part of the problem with too many alums and potential fans..

It has always bothered me about people who think people or teams that must be the greatest or else they are on the level of cow manure. For example I never understood people who rip Super-Bowl losers as being awful teams and worse than dirt. Plus if you don't like what people think about you... then do something about it... in this case.. win a lot and see what happens.

I still wonder why we have so many fans dogging the SBc as if we are to good for the conference when we have not even dominated the conference overall. Yeah we won 4 Regular Season Titles, but how many have we won in other sports? Very few. Until we can dominate our own backyard in most every sport, we should quit bitching about being in a lowly conference. "If" we were to get into CUSA or WAC, would these same fans be happy being in the bottom 1/4 of these supposed better conferences?
