Who beat Alabama who ALMOST beat LSU who won the national championship!

UNT was basically #2 in the nation last year. I don't know what is up with all this "maybe we'll crack the top 100 next year" talk... we're already there!

Someone give this man a job in marketing!

Interesting. I wonder what our record would have been last year if we had averaged 10 points less allowed/game. Even with our current staff, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that kind of improvement. And I know DeLoach is coaching for a shutout every week.

How does our current defensive staff compare to that '02 staff? We have Peterson still, right? I think he has some skins on the wall, but I don't recall who coached on that '02 defense.

BTW, we may not have a Booger or LB core like yesteryears, but this defense has a lot more depth than that '02 team. We've had two solid classes of recruits come in, and a horrible outing last over-shadowed the players potential.*

*I hope!

I hope you are right, I am just not going to expect this team to win more than 6 games. I think if they win 6 or 7 it will be a great season.

From now until Sepetmber, there will be all types of stories writen

about the Mean Green, so let the talking heads and sports writers

do their job, even if the reporting is not accurate. The real story

will be the turn around that Dodge Ball will produce. Last season,

throw in a few breaks here and there, and a defense that was

more aggresive, the 2007 team could have finished out the

season 7-5, or even 8-4. With a full year of Dodge Ball under their

belts, the experience the true freshmen and red shirts gained,

add a year of weight training, mix in the new talent coming on

board, then stir in some Coach Dodge, Ford, and DeLoach

secret ingredients, you will end up with a winning season for

2008. Sounds like a sweet receipe for success !

Prediction, 8-4 season, and in the hunt for New Orleans!

That will be the story of the year! What a huge turn around

for North Texas football!

Then see how the sports writers and talking heads come back

to say, "I told you so! I knew North Texas would turn it around!

North Texas is back!" Followed up with, "No way Coach Dodge

stays at North Texas. Big $$$ coming with a BCS school!"

I can see it all now! So, just ride these days out, do not take

offense to the writers or talking heads, because they always

change the real story some way some how.

This is just an opinion and sadly reflects most of the student body's opinion on the football team.. My opinion is that NT will be better than as predicted by this writer.. prolly a 5-7, 6-6 team, but gaining ground in the sun belt and a good starting ground for the following years.. I love Mean Green football as much as the next guy but we still have some ways to go, this isn't going to be built over night.

Keep in mind this was written as an opinion piece. Trashing a student for writing this and calling him a douche is the equivalent of slamming our players. They are both just kids, doing their best. I hear people on this board constantly defending our football players, reminding us not to hold them to the standard of professionals. So extend the same courtesty to these student writers as well.

Save the vinegar and water for the DRC.

Exactly. One of the best posts I have ever seen on the subject.

Ya know I never agreed with this argument. Unless they are some kind of protege or a student at TAMS, most college students are above the age of 18. That makes them ADULTS, not kids. Granted, they are young adults but they have reached the age of majority and it't their choice to engage in an activity for public comsumption/entertainment. I see nothing wrong critcisim of a player who isn't getting it done on the field (Personal attacks are out of bounds i.e., calling him a douche) And these 'kids' know what they signed up for, and they can hanldle it.

Yes he is a "kid" but he isnt 12. He is in college and does have a brain. Okay if he wrote a bad article then what about the editor of the newspaper? A simple proofread is all I was expecting. This is truly a 3rd rate article that was terribly written. His article is reaching out to thousands of people so he knows whats at stake.

Oh and to 97and03, I agree with you that we need to keep the standards the same for the football players and everybody else but I am in the camp that even football players are in the same boat that they can be criticized for their play or actions. They are subjected to the same criticism in my opinoin.
