DENTON, Texas (4/18/08) – The North Texas basketball team added another punch at point guard with the signing of Arkansas-Fort Smith’s Dominique Johnson to a National Letter of Intent.

Johnson (5-10, 150, Jr., PG, Kansas City, Mo., Arkansas-Fort Smith) was named to the second-team All-Bi-State Conference after tallying 9.4 points and 5.1 assists per game for the Lions last season. An accurate shooter from deep, Johnson knocked down 39.4 percent of his 3-point attempts and 45.5 percent overall in helping UAFS to a 28-4 record last season.

"Dominique is a terrific addition to our basketball team," said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones. "He is a true point guard that brings tremendous passing and perimeter shooting abilities, with the ability to really defend on the perimeter."

He was a 73.9 percent free throw shooter and added 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game for the Lions. Johnson will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after spending the 2007-08 season at Arkansas-Fort Smith and his freshman year at Missouri-Kansas City.

In high school, Johnson was a first-team All-State and All-Metro selection for Lincoln Prep in Kansas City, Mo.

Johnson joins NJCAA All-American Eric Tramiel and Arlington Grace Prep center Ben Knox as newcomers to the Mean Green roster. Tramiel led Paris Junior College to the NJCAA National Tournament last season and will participate in the Division I All-Star Game this weekend in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Knox, a TAPPS Second-Team All-State selection this year, guided Grace Prep to the state title game in each of the last two seasons, and is ranked as the No. 62 recruit in the state by TexasHoops.com after averaging 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocks per game in 2007-08.

The Mean Green recorded its second straight 20-win season and notched a school-record 15 home wins in 2007-08. North Texas returns the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year in Josh White, and Collin Dennis, the conference’s Newcomer of the Year.
