As a UNT Alum ('02) and former Student Body President, it has been very embarrassing to read the comments of come over the past few days. I understand that everyone has their opinion -- but we all have no idea what went on in those interviews. We would all have a gripe if we had the opportunity to sit down with each candidate ourselves and give our feedback to the committee, but we didn't. I have had the opportunity to sit in on several of these searches -- I was on the committee that selected Rick as AD. I remember how pissed people were when we did not hire the gentleman who was (at the time) interim AD at OK State and Former Interim Commissioner/Associate Commissioner with the Big 12 Conference. But I think that we made a great decision in hiring Rick.

Also, some people were not excited about TD coming to UNT. They looked at the possible coaches -- Jimbo Fischer and thought - let us get a big time coach. But I think that things have worked out for the best.

So, yes we can sit here and be pissed because we did not hire Coach Capps - but again, the committee was privy to information that the general public was not.

And please, the comment about Coach Stephens being the "most affordable" is a bunch of crap.

Coach Stephens was right person, for this job, right now.

Im not saying Dodge isnt gonna turn this baby the right way but I dont know that the "anti-dodge" people have necessarily been proved wrong just yet.

But I agree with the overall sentiment of your post. Glad you said it.

As stockholders of the program, fans and alums have every right to be concerned about coaching hires. Maybe the committee loved her smile and friendliness but the facts presented to the public about the applicants suggested Stephens was third best in coaching experience. Implications that the others were not hired because of being male or white further taint the process unless all know the reasoning by the committee for the hire. And don't come on a message board if you don't like opinions. :P

What "implications". I haven't seen any. Perhaps you are looking for a beef.

I agree with bdan2002...except for that Obama button on his site! YUCK! OK ... just kidding...to each his/her own when it comes to politics, but I, too, think that things get a bit on the negative side on this board...and contrary to some sentiment, you can disagree on a board without getting so negative and critical...especially about "stuff" when you really don't know the inside details. It's one thing to disagree with a call or a substitution, etc. when you were at the game, but I would guess that close to 100% of the folks posting on this board were not involved in the BB coach interview process. As such, you really do not know who made the best impression, who had the ideas that "clicked", who had the positive outlook, etc., etc. Maybe just maybe, Coach Stephens wanted the job more and showed it! A won-loss record alone does not make one a good candidate for every school out there looking for a new head coach.

Go ahead, disagree with the hire....but be civil about it. Coach Stephens IS UNT's new head women's BB coach...let's welcome her...give her a chance to "right the ship" and let's see if we can't do a better job of supporting women's BB at UNT while we are at it...if the fans don't care, and don't show they care...how can the fans expect to have a quality program? Just thinking.....Maybe if UNT gets the whole package going...good coach, good team....coach and team interaction with the student body and the community...and there are "rears in the seats" for the games....just maybe...just maybe it will be another step in the right direction...there have been lots of steps in the right direction lately...I am counting on this hire being another one!

WELCOME TO UNT COACH STEPHENS!

losen up, will ya.

My bad. I just can't help but take everything so seriously here. I think the "comments of come" BDan described have really proven to be messier than anyone expected.
