Gee, this doesn't mention anything about her being a "female minority."

Like it or not or agree with it or not...The fact that she is a female minority can have a HUGE impact in recruiting. It is just a simple comment that actually does make a difference to a lot of potential recruits.

True, but you can also be a great recruiter and be a poor coach.

I will agree with you there. Although I do believe you do not have to be a GREAT coach to win if you have great talent....You cant teach skill in my opinion.

Ahh, the innocence of youth and the joy of not suffering through the Trilli era.

Ok I will be the first to admit I wasn't really around in the Vic Trilli era of NT basketball. So what was his deal and what was the Vic Trilli era like?

We won less than 30 games in 4 years. His first recruiting class was like top 20 in the country.

Interesting...though it was a highly ranked recruiting class, were they really good players or were they players that were good in HS but spares in college?

I think a few never made it grade wise and others ended up transfering to more established programs. I don't even remember all the kids we had in that class anymore. But I do recall how excited I was when we had such a great recruiting class....I mean they made announcements about it at Fouts during football season for crying out loud.

I don't think Trilli ever won more than about 8 games in a season. It was such a beating to goto Men's games back then...and I went to nearly all of them.

One of his players was Deginald Erskin that ended up starring at Texas. Trilli could recruit with anyone, but couldn't coach worth a lick.

He will definately be remembered more for what he got accomplished here off of the court than he will on the court.

What did he accomplish off the court other than having good recruits?

No, this was actually a very good group of players. Like CMJ said some had their off the court issues but those that were around to play, the Deg Erskin and Dexter Tennell guys, were definitely good enough players that Trilli's record was unforgivable.

Man I guess he was that bad of an actual coach huh? Well hopefully Stephens isnt like that...its hard to believe that any D1 coach these days that can get a top 20 recruiting class can only muster up about 8 or 9 wins a season. But you never know I guess.

Don't forget that was less than 10 wins a year in the Big West. I mean the BW isn't a terrible basketball league by any stretch, but it ain't the Big East either.

In all fairness, we did have some absolutely brutal non conference schedules.

Trilli was a great recruiter. His record wasn't all his fault. First the administration was

not behind him. He had YOUNG assistants that didn't have much experience and

therefore made very little money.

In Vic's defense. he worked his butt off in replacing orange seats in the Super Pit,

and personally painting the floor. This guy was fighting with a short stick as was

Tim Jankovich.

Trilli should have stayed at UT as the recruiting coordinator or at some other top

basketball school. He could recruit as good as anybody but I think was too good

a friend to the players and had to do most everything himself. Not making

excuses for him but his deal, as was Jankovich's, was a lot different than what is

going on now at NT.
