I think what contact you make has already been covered. BUT...if you see a prospect at the game with a letter jacket or HS Jersey I will appreciate an pm me a message with the name of school, player #, player name, or anything else that can establish a prospect players interest in NT football. Hopefully I can take it from there. Thanks in advance...OldTimer

Again personal contact is not allowed.

Personal contact is not allowed? I can understand not wanting alumni slipping the recruits $100 bills, but you can't smile at them or say hello? I dispute the "personal contact is not allowed" rule.

If i am not mistaken, Feeley was at the last scrimage with his dad. This may have been noted previously, but I don't have exclusive access to the champagne room.

What's to dispute? It's not allowed. There's a recent thread that outlines the rules in great detail.

I thought you couldn't contact them if your were a donor or booster?

If they speak to you, you can speak to them--but not about the program. You are putting UNT's program in harm's way if you discuss the program with them, and you would be violating NCAA rules. Plain and simple.

If you've purchased season tickets, donated to the MG club, or possibly even bought tickets to the game, you COULD be classified as a 'representative of the university's athletic interests'. It's not worth the risk to the program.

***********************************************************************

The NCAA defines a "representative" of a university's athletic interests as...

an individual who is known (or who should have been known) by a member of the university's executive or athletics administration to:

have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization promoting said university's athletics;

have made financial contributions to the athletic department or to an athletic booster organization of the university;

have assisted or have been requested (by the athletics department staff) to assist in the recruitment of prospects;

have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families; or

have been involved otherwise in promoting the institution’s athletic program.

Once an individual is identified as an "athletic representative," the person retains that identify forever. [NCAA Bylaw 13.02.12.1]

>>have made financial contributions to the athletic department or to an athletic booster organization of the university;

This is the funny part of putting the recruits in section E. By these rules, everyone in section E is a booster (technically) and they sit them directly in front of them .. and the dudes always turn around to talk. Then the eagle angels get mad and blame the booster. Then the cycle continues!

There is no way that you will get UNT in trouble *if* you happen into a conversation with a recruit about the weather or answering questions about why the sky is blue. However, if you are spotted pleading with the player to come here and wiping his sweat with a franklin... well.. then UNT will have a problem.

The "DON'T TALK TO THEM AT ALL COSTS" policy is to avoid the inevitable knucklehead who will throw "sarcasm" around without really understanding what sarcasm is..

"Dude, every player here has a new car.. don't you want that!?" ... "what? I was being sarcastic"

I don't want to spit hairs here, but wouldn't it be ok to talk about UNT as a university. As in "this is a great school and a fun place to go to college. The business school is great. The people are friendly and professors are top notch here. You will get a great education at UNT."

I don't have the answers.. and it appears no one REALLY has the answers. So they implement a "look but don't interact" policy with recruits to avoid having to figure out the rules and explain them in layman's terms.

Unless you are offering them a job that pays $45k an hour and they only have to work one hour a year.. I don't see the problem with asking them their impression on UNT so far. Then again, I just choose to not talk to them. Besides, I don't really see eye to eye with high school kids very often. GET OFF MY LAWN!
