An energetic young coach familiar to those in Big 12 women’s basketball circles, is third-year assistant coach Kenya Larkin.

In 2004-05, Larkin began her coaching career at Trinity Valley Community College, where she starred for two seasons as a member of the tradition-rich Lady Cardinals backcourt.

In her first season as an assistant coach, Larkin helped Trinity Valley to a 32-3 mark, collecting regional and conference titles along the way.

Prior to pursuing a coaching career, Larkin played professionally overseas for two seasons, leading her squad to the Israeli Women’s League playoffs twice.

The Duncanville, Texas, native was third in the league in scoring during her first season and was tabbed as the league’s point guard of the year. Larkin was also named as an all-league selection both years.

Larkin began her collegiate career at Trinity Valley Community College where she starred for two seasons under current Cowgirl head coach Kurt Budke. As a freshman, she directed the Lady Cardinals to a 36-0 mark and the 1999 National Junior College Athletic Association national championship.

Rated as the fourth-best junior college point guard as a sophomore, Larkin led Trinity Valley to a 24-6 mark and the Region XIV title on her way to garnering first-team all-region, and first-team all-conference honors before moving on the University of Texas.

Larkin played in each of the Longhorns’ 65 games during her two seasons in Austin, starting 62 times and leading the squad in assists both years. She started all 32 games as a senior to help Texas reach the Sweet 16.

Larkin finished her Longhorn career with 443 points, 195 assists and 97 steals before being invited to the 2002 WNBA Pre-Draft Camp.

She is engaged to Michael Landers, who currently serves as the athletics director and head women’s basketball coach at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas.

Larkins’ mother, Dinia Johnson, and her family reside in Duncanville, Texas, while her father, Ezell Larkin, resides in Casopolis, Michigan. Her brother is currently a freshman at Trinity Valley.
