I wonder how Jay Bilas, steadfast defender of the rich and powerful, feels now that those pesky Mid-Majors have claimed three spots in the Elite 8.

Too bad the Mid-Majors don't fair as well in the selection committee as they do on the court. Members of the "Priviledged Conferences" were selected to 27 of the 33 at-large bids for an impressive 82%. Not enough to satisfy Jay Bilas, but it ties the highest percentage ever achieved by the "Televi$ion Conferences."

It is a shame that the Mid-Majors can win 38% of the Elite 8 on the court, but just 18% of the bids from the selection committee.

Amen Buford. Though I'm not sure who lse I would've invited from a non power league. Illinois State definitely deserved alot of consideration. I'd also probably have invited another A-10 school(especially seeing Xavier's success!). With UMass making the NIT semifinals they would've been a decent choice. Maybe Dayton too who was Top 25 for much of the year before injuries took their toll.

Couldn't agree more...and thats with 6 mid-majors getting screwed by the seeding and having to play each other in the first round...Gonzaga/Davidson, WKU/Drake, USA/Butler...maybe even throw in UNLV/Kent. I like to think Drake would've beaten Nova and Siena (or Vandy) and put up a better showing against Kansas...and either USA or Gonzaga would've hung tough with WVU...and Butler would've gone further had they been properly seeded.

There is no such thing has a power conference anymore in college basketball. The Big East was supposed to be the best conference this season, and it took them 7 bids to get 1 team to the elite 8. The SEC and Big 10 got shut out and the ACC, the conference that if Jay Bilas and Dick Vitale had their way would get all 12 teams into the tourney, only got 1 into the elite 8, and sweet 16.

I hope the Xaviers and Davidsons of this season will finally shut these "experts" up about expanding the tourney field or removing automatic bids. The NCAA tournament is perfect as is.
