(Didn't he visit NT? Anyway....it'd sure be nice to have gotten him, since they're letting him play, after transferring and NOT sitting out a year. I wonder though, if the NCAA would have granted his waiver if he'd signed with us. Anyway, from the DMNews blog:

The NCAA has granted a waiver filed by Texas Tech on behalf of defensive tackle Chris Perry, making the former Miami Hurricane immediately eligible to participate in the fall.

Perry, a former standout at Keller Fossil Ridge, transferred to Texas Tech in January. Per NCAA rules, a student-athlete who transfers from one Football Subdivision School to another must sit out a full season before becoming eligible to play. However, Texas Tech filed a waiver to the NCAA last week, citing personal reasons for Perry's transfer, asking that it consider Perry's request.

Perry (6-3, 310) is one of five players listed at nose tackle on Tech's spring football depth chart. Sophomore Colby Whitlock (6-2, 281), a freshman first-team All-American a year ago, is listed as the starter. He started the last nine games for Tech last season and finished with 42 tackles (8½ for loss) and two sacks.

Perry signed with Miami out of Fossil Ridge and red-shirted last season. He will have four years of eligibility at Tech. Perry, who was No. 18 on SportsDay's Area Top 100 list in 2007, gave non-binding oral commitments to Miami, Nebraska and Tennessee out of high school before signing with the Hurricanes.

Good question, but to ask it is to answer it, don't you think? I was definitely hoping we would land him, but oh well. Maybe we'll get a Booger back next year.
