As far as a I know Al's Pizzeria is the closest thing to the local shops in New York and Jersey. I recommend their pizza, their calzones and strombolis are good. The rest of their menu or at least what I have tried is OK.

Sal's off Wycliffe and the Tollway was next on my list for their other stuff, meaning everything but pizza. I still like their Calamari, even thought they seem to be skimping on the filling and size these days. We asked what the deal was and they said it was costs, we recommended to our waiter it is better to raise prices then to get skimpy.

Pastazios in Addison Circle, now I have not been there in a while but they used to make a decent pie and they had it by the slice.

Lovers Pizza Pasta is on the list but just OK.

My credentials, I am a fat food lover and cook, plus I am picky as hell with food. While growing up in Dallas, I spent about four-five months a year in the Catskills, New York, which used to be where most of NY city spent their summers, well the food traveled with the vacationers. Plus having some relatives in and around the city. My Grandfather on my Father's side was born here, but several of his siblings were born in Sicily after he was born here. His family moved back to Sicily for a few years, and then moved back where he grew up in Jersey with his Uncle and several of his brothers and sisters. Seems my great grandmother had died somewhere along the way and my great grandfather had remarried in Sicily, and the new wife was not keen on moving back to the US. But he wanted his children here, later the whole family that was left in Sicily moved in with my grandparents when my Dad was a kid for about two years. They had a very big country house on a small Airport in the Catskills my grandfather had bought before WWII. My grandmother of Lithuanian decent had been trained to cook Sicilian style by her in-laws staying with her and from the Siblings that grew up in NY City aera. Well that woman could cook, wow. Think of the best Tex-Mex ever then apply that thought to the best New York/Italian food, she was it.

Plus back then there were more Pizzerias in NY then fast food burger restaurants are now DFW.

So my search is for NY style pizza where you can get shaved Italian sausage on a pizza not the rat turd crumble dog food tasting stuff that is typically called Italian sausage topping in Texas.

Marco's is OK but the cracker thin crust is not NY Style.

I would like to hear more about Vinnie's

They spoke English before they got here, and they were all legal. Now some of my great Uncles by marriage my grandfather would not talk to my whole life were in a more traditional movie stereotype professions. Concrete and garbage so they may have skipped some taxes, I don't know, I do know when I saw them at my grandfathers funeral, they all came in long black limos, were in overcoats, with thick glasses, had body guards and drivers. Many years later now but Junior on the Sopranos reminded me of how they and their entourage looked at that Funeral.

But please back to pizza before they lock down this thread.
