No On Campus Stadium For Memphis

Memphis athletic director R.C. Johnson was asked about the timetable for the theoretical on-campus stadium of the future.

"There is no timetable," he said.

Of course there isn't. Because there is no plan for an on-campus stadium. It's just a nice thing to tell your supporters so they don't get too mad.

Never mind that it's a lie. The whole on-campus stadium debate has been a succession of lies.

Wow, think that columnist seems a little jaded at this decision? Many schools are wanting to get football games back to campus at new campus stadiums (Smut, Akron, UCF). UNT is lucky in the fact we have the spot and the plan; all we lack is the $$. Memphis seems to have the $$ but no plan to act on it at this time. I'm sure the city was balking at putting renovation $ into Liberty Stadium until this new stadium was shot down first. We're lucky Denton can give no pressure to NT on the stadium issue, but they give no $$ either.

--We have the worst stadium of any D-I college in Texas. If SMU, TCU and Rice had not been former SWC members that likely would not be the case but they were, so they have better stadiums if not better attendance than we do.. If you compare us the to Mid-majors in general our situation is not quite as bad.

--Considering our enrollment (3rd in state, near large population) we should have a better one and ABSOLUTELY should have better attendance than we have (in both football and basketball) .

--More students need to show up and show some pride in their university...
