I think we have a 50-50 shot at the CBI.

SUMG and I were discussing that today. He has started to convince me we may get in. I originally didn't think we had much of a shot.

It's not the NCAA, or the NIT(which still does have a certain amount of cache if/when you make it to the Big Apple). BUT, I'd take it!

So we have 113 post-season teams now. Too bad the NIT reduced their field last year or we would have 121. Would be great if we could squeeze in. Don't think our attendance will help us a lot, but maybe our location and market will. Here's a link about the new tourney.

It's still only about 1/3 of the teams as apposed to football that lets over half the nation into bowl games that mean nothing.

What are the chances of North Texas getting a home game in either the CBI or NIT tournament? Fact is, half the teams do play at home but those are usually the schools that have a commitment to athletics. The schools that don't have a commitment are rarely invited, and when they are, they are quickly disposed of by being forced to play on the road.

When was our last home NIT game?

Wasn't it the same year that we hosted a 1AA playoff game in football?

Take away an upset of Cinncinnati in 2002 and how many postseason games has North Texas won in football, men's basketball, or women's basketball in the last 63 years.

FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE SYMPTOMS WILL GO AWAY.

A new tournament.

So will the new tournament compete with the NIT where teams will have the option to choose which bid they want to play in, or will they chose their teams after the NIT does?

Let me see if I am understanding this right - we have the NCAA "system" of the NCAA tournament in basketball, but we can have "other" tourneys, yet if another group wants to come in and create a playoff for D1 football after the bowls, that is not allowed. Makes sense.

They will be competing against each other, yes. I have to think most schools would prefer the NIT though.

 Honestly I'm not sure the NCAA can stop this new group. The NIT predates the NCAA championships and up until the early 1960's or so was basically on equal footing(I guess sort of like the Bowl system where there'd be a debate over who was #1). One school even won BOTH tournaments in the same year. I think the CBI was formed because once the NCAA bought the NIT a few years ago many people thought the NCAA would slowly phase it out of existance and there'd be a market for a new postseason tourney.
