O.K., I'm coming clean. I live 350 miles from Denton and have no fear of being tarred and feathered verbally for what I am about to reveal. I still believe the mascot is the Eagle, thus, I have always liked the "Parrot Eagle" and see it as a "Fighting Eagle". To me, Mean Green will always be our famed defensive unit monikor for those great teams in the 1960's. I know I'll get labeled as one of the "old guys" who is not in tune with the current world of North Texas Athletics. So be it. North Texas has always been and will always be the EAGLES . Stop changing this stuff every 2-3 years. That's how you build and keep traditions! And for what it's worth, I also like the current EAGLE that we use. Wish it were on the helmets! So, I happen to like the Parrot Eagle or any Eagle for that matter.

That's why I like the original Scrappy. He's an Eagle with a MEAN look on his face. His full image may not be big and muscular, but the look on his face clearly conveys the message that "YOU DO NOT WANT TO MESS WITH ME".

The look on his face also conveys my mantra "I DIDN'T COME HERE TO LOSE".

---Note my screen name... I am an Eagle.... and I too think the Mean Green pertains to football.. especially the defense. And don't care that there are other Eagles in the NCAA. We were Eagles first and were called that for more than 50 years prior to the "Mean Green" name appearing... I am old and like tradition and respecting those who came before us and "fought" as Eagles.. . also fooey on Eppy.. (or whatever that thing was)... or that newer parrot thing either... Go Scrappy..!!

---I too live 350 miles away (Midland) but still make 1-3 NT games each year.. my kids live in Dallas, 2 are grads of NT..... Also we were likely on Campus at the same time. ( me 64-66...also early 70's in summers) I lived in the brand-new College Inn, I was "a Charter Resident".

Mean Green is our spirit in all sports, then the attitude we bring to the game, any game or competition UNT is involved in.
