But they didn't run a spread. They have always run a pro-style offense under Stoops.

Can you clarify for the sake of someone who just wants to know more football :)

By pro-style are you referring to 3 - 4 wideouts, exactly like "spreading the field" which is what I'm arguing..

If you're referring to a pro-set (don't think this is the case), that's a split back...which would not be OU at all.

Close enough. Well, how about Darrell K. Royal? Played at OU, became the most reknowned UT coach.

touche. well played sir, well played.

But were they really even rivals until he coached at ut? huh? huh? :)

Exodus 7:17-18,

This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD : With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood. The fish in the Nile will die, OU will go to war with UT, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.'

Thus The Red River Rivalry. Easily before Royal. duh...

Pro style (in my little corner of reality) would be a mix of 2 TE, 3&4 wideouts, 2 back sets, single-back sets, under center, and shotgun. A very complex and mixed offense that uses the run to set up the pass. The spread is primarily out of the shotgun with 3-4 WRs and tends to be more pass oriented.

Unless it's Dodge's spread and then it tends to be 50/50 run/pass.
