Some good, some not-so-good, actually lousy for a playoff game (from USAToday):

Den @ UNO = 457

FIU @ FAU = 840

ULM @ MTSU = 2305

Troy @ ULL = 3419

ASU @ UNT = 4631

And this is why JJ is right when he says UNT students have made The Pit one of those most intimidating places to play in the Sun Belt. Yeah, we don't fill it up but we're definitely getting better.

If we win the tournament again this year, the athletics department should spend a little money on TV and billboard advertising for next season.

that seems to be a generous number.

that seems to be a generous number.

Based on what? The student section was probably at 90% capacity. It was definitely a larger than average crowd... and surprisingly few Douches about.

yes...for once us students can not be blamed...like UNTFlyer said...the student section was at about 90% full....the alumni and town people support on the other hand....SUCKED!

I for one will be glad when the Alumni/Student attendance bashing (for all events) ceases to exist. Anyone else ? Bueller ? Bueller ?

By the way, I WAS at the game. Also, I AM an ALUMNUS.

GO MEAN GREEN !!!

Alumni crowd did not suck for this game. It was average...nothing more, nothing less. The students do deserve props for showing up in force though. That Wedel kid got abused by them all night.

The attendance for the game was good overall. The number is probably a bit inflated, but who cares. We won both games big, and the crowd was actually into the game for the most part. I always consider that a win.

I wouldn't say the general admission sucked, but it can definitely improve. I certainly don't want to bash attendance while it is in the midst of improving.

But... in a city of 109,000, in a county of 600,000, in a metro area of 7.6 million, there is no reason we can't fill a 10,000 seat arena for a conference tournament game. The AD needs to do a better job at promoting the game.

And it can be done very cheaply... hang banners from the North Texas Blvd/I-35 overpass on game days. If just 0.01% of motorists passing under it in a day decided to go see a game that night...

I think the students were great last night. We had quite a few different events going on and the student crowd was still good. Greeks had an event and there were a couple other things too. I made it for the 2nd half.

How are the games announced to the students? To Alumni? The email JJ sent to the students was perfect.

I imagine the AD simply sends email reminders to the Alumni database. I know I get one. Problem is, I'm 350 miles away! Tough to make those games and be at my job the next morning.

Sadly, I only received the email from JJ.

The Eagle Mail system has an "Info and Events" folder for announcements, but athletic events are never posted there. I get stuff like Battle of the Bands and Comedy Night at KT Tatara.

And even if they were, most students put forwarding on their Inbox so they can use GMail or Yahoo and never see that Events folder. Why? Because our university has the crappiest email system I've ever seen.

The Greeks used that same excuse last year for our playoff game....... They need to do something to get that changed. If they really want to help the image of THEIR university.....SHOW UP.!!!!

whoa...there browski!.....I'd say for the most part greeks have shown up big to the basketball games this year. You might not see them in there Greek Letters and thats because they've been wearing NORTH TEXAS GREEN or PIT CREW T-shirts in the stands. :)

This week was "Greek Week," which is 7 days where all greek fraternities/sororities program events on campus and raise money for the community. It does stink that the Greeks had an event from 7-8:30 (during the basketball game), but you have to keep in mind that us fans weren't even sure that we were going to play the 1st round game at the Super-Pit until a week ago. ;)

I know several greeks (fraternity men) that skipped the event all together to go to the basketball game! There seemed to be a lot more students in the stands after halftime (because they were coming from an event). I firmly believe that UNT as a community has made HUGE strides as to show up and not program events on the same nights as basketball games.

If you don't believe me...check out the attendance in the student section for each game this season. We have higher attendance numbers than past seasons and higher numbers than the sections in the sun belt & in many other conferences! Way to go UNT!

One point that i would like to make is....that our attendance numbers are not entirely correct. There has been many times where I've seen students walk in the game without there id's being scanned (because it has been after halftime) or being let in because students have a UNT ID all-in-one Debit Card and not the regular swipe card. The UNT Debit Card needs a specific swiper to record attendance and some gates do not have this special swiper (thus losing track of student attendance). But I know that athletics have partially-fixed this problem, but it wasn't until later on in the season.

You might not realize it, but there were plenty of greeks at the game last night. Myself being one ;)

.....and I wouldn't be surprised if the overall attendance number was higher than what was recorded.

Attendance problems? Blame the greeks! That's, like, soooo hot right now.

If we could somehow figure out how to get those a-holes that pay for their friends to show up to games, all of UNT's problems would be solved!

I hear the Big 12 had interest in UNT until they saw that the Greek turnout to gmg.com expectation level ratio for athletic event attendance was so far askew.

The stadium would have been built in 2005 had the Greeks just canceled their events.

My god, it's so simple. Why hasn't any informed IFC or Panhellenic about how their wicked ways are sabotaging our athletic success???!!!!?!??!?!!

Let's hope for a Greek-free 08 so UNT can finally claim it's rightful place in the college athletic world: #1 in everything for evermore.
