Round two of the Todd Dodge era at UNT is about to begin with spring practice on Thursday and the Mean Green's head coach sat down with me today to go over his roster and what he expects from his team in the next few weeks.

There will be a story in Thursday's paper, but in the mean time here are a few of those little nuggets of information that the hardcore fans love.

The NCAA granted running back Cam Montgomery a medical redshirt for last season when he struggled with injuries and hardly saw the field. That should be good news for the Mean Green, which lost Jamario Thomas after last season.

As you heard here first, Tobe Nwigwe is back around the Mean Green Athletic Center. Dodge confirmed on Tuesday that he is also back with the Mean Green and will participate in spring practice. He will work at middle linebacker, where UNT is looking for a new starter.

Former Arlington Seguin defensive back Donte Neal has transferred from Missouri. I mentioned yesterday that I assumed that he would have to sit out the upcoming season. Dodge confirmed that is indeed the case since he did sign a national letter of intent with the Tigers.

On the injury front, add wide receiver Evan Fentriss and defensive lineman Isaac Thomas to the list of players who will miss all of spring workouts. Fentriss has a knee injury and Thomas is coming back from a blood clot in his leg. Offensive lineman Chad Rose and Kelvin Drake and linebacker Bryant Seidle are also out for spring practice. Offensive lineman Matthew Menard will also miss the first few practices of spring.

And one last note … drum roll, please.

Practices are open to the public, as long as fans are willing to stand outside the fence at the Mean Green Athletic Center or in the stands at Fouts Field. Feel free to come by and say hello, since I will be outside the iron bars as well.

Those are just a few of the highlights of what Dodge had to say. For more on how the Mean Green looks heading into spring, check back on the blog and be sure to read the Denton Record-Chronicle.

Good to see that Todge is giving Vito the time of day.

I don't understand why someone would prefer to stand outside the gates rather than be in the stands?

Good to hear about Cam as he is still a JR then. Also interesting about Nwigwe, hopefully things are straightend out as he has alot of talent at a position we need someone to step in at. Can't wait for some updates tomorrow.

Probably because you can't see the fields by the athletics center from the stands at Fouts. But yes if they're practicing at Fouts I'd rather be in the stands than outside the gate.

Oh man, we got to see all of Fentriss in a spring practice for a season he wasn't even eligible to play.

Now that he can, we're not going to see Spring Ball Fentriss v.2

As long as he looks like he did last spring this fall I'll be happy. As long as he gets healthy I can sacrifice seeing him this spring.

He means IN THE STANDS during the scrimmages and practices when they are at Fouts, and OUTSIDE THE GATE when the practices are at the AC center.

This is very good news. Very happy that Cam was awarded a medical redshirt.
