It is sad to see the Cotton Bowl Stadium falling by the wayside even with improvements being made because even after the Texas OU game eventually leaves and the Cotton Bowl game leaves the stadium there will only ever be one true Cotton Bowl. Much like the Orange Bowl game leaving the Orange Bowl stadium it is sad to see tradition fall behind state of the art luxuries and corporate demands for bigger and better. As sad as it is to see a stadium like the Cotton Bowl take a back seat in the coming years to the new Cowboys Stadium I must say after going to the Cotton Bowl game for the last 5 years it is definitely very evident that the stadium is outdated to the point that watching a game there has become un-enjoyable when you consider the maze of ramps and cut throughs to get to your seat as well as the narrow aisles and bathroom waiting lines that block and mesh with the concessions lines. I will miss the tradition of watching the Cotton Bowl in the stadium it is named after but look forward to a more fan friendly venue in Arlington in the years to come.

I hope the restoration is a success, they can keep the Red River rivalry, and lure something else there to keep it viable. Listen, the Rose Bowl is an old stadium, with numerous issues - but there'd be a revolution if they tried to move that game somewhere else.

Since the City of Angels can't beg an NFL team to stay, I see no danger of that.

The LA Colesium is almost as large, has arguably more history(2 Olympic Games), has been kept in arguably better shape, and is in close proximity. And yet if anything the Rose Bowl, with half of the Stadium still with bleacher seating, is considered the jewel.

And the NFL still wants to move to Los Angeles - the city just doesn't care enough.

$50 million for what? Just pouring good money after bad. After the Tx/Ou series moves to JerryWorld around 2014 the Cotton Bowl will be out of college games and soon after out of business (see Orange Bowl).

I disagree, there is a lot of tradition at the Cotton Bowl and many people will always want to go back there. The State Fair is something that will always be a huge attraction and they will be hard pressed to recreate that in Arlington.

The day Jerry promised the Hogs and Aggs 5 million EACH to play a game, where the money was guaranteed, was the day OU and UT officials decided this deal with the Cotton Bowl would be their last. I don't know how in the world the Cotton Bowl keeps this series away from Jerry's world.

Maybe if enough alumni don't want to play there? I did a quick scan of hornfans and most didn't seem to want the game moved. I guess we'll see in 2014.

I hear you to some degree, but if it comes down to a million more per team plus 10,000 more tickets per team, it will be hard to turn down.

Oh I have no doubt Texas and OU will be tempted to move. They very well might move the game. I just don't think it'll be a slamdunk - especially with a 92K seat Cotton Bowl.

Why are they throwing their good money after naught?? The day that Madam No decided to let the Cowboy's stadium be built in Arlington was the day the Red River Shootout was destined to be moved outside of Dallas. There is no way in the world that either school is going to allow that game to continue to be played in a stadium that cannot offer the ticket/suite revenue that Jerry's Coliseum can afford. The renovation/added seats constitute the "lipstick on a pig" thats just not going to cut it. I agree that there's something to be said for the State Fair atmosphere that the Cotton Bowl can offer, but most of the fans attending the game could care less, they fly in/drive up for the game and then are gone. Although I can't stand either school, I try to go to every shootout I can get tickets for, but It's almost a chore sit through a game in the Cotton Bowl's seats. The prospect of viewing the game in comfortable seats which happen to reside in the most innovative venue on the globe will be too much to resist.

Don't let the sheer number of seats distract you..... It's the $ for suite sales that will get the game moved to Arlington. No suites at the Cotton Bowl compared to a plethora at Jerry World......

And the winner is.....

Most luxury suites are owned by coorporations. It's not like they'll get more money from them if the game is moved there. Like say at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. If Paramount Studios owns a Suite(I believe they do) it doesn't matter if the Kings, Lakers, Clippers, or whoever else is playing there - the money is already in the hands of Staples Center. It's not like they have to shell out MORE for a special event.

Those of us in the Fort would like to thank the City of Dallas and the good folks in the City of Arlington for the future economic boom to come.
