DENTON (2/16/08) – Collin Dennis recorded a career high with 34 points to lead the North Texas men’s basketball team to a 90-64 victory against Troy on Saturday night at the Super Pit.

The Mean Green (16-9, 7-7 Sun Belt) splits this season’s series with Troy and moves to 4-1 in the all-time series against the Trojans.

The Super Pit was raining three-pointers during the men’s and women’s basketball games tonight. In the men’s game, the two teams combined for 23 three-pointers and 60 three-point attempts. Dennis tied a career high with four three-pointers.

The Mean Green has not scored 90 points since it defeated Texas A&M International, 97-70, on Dec. 28. NT scored 88 in a loss to Troy on Jan. 3.

Dennis led North Texas on an 14-2 run to start the game and the Mean Green never looked back. The junior transfer posted 10 of NT’s first 16 points, including two three-pointers and then finished the first half with more then half of NT’s points (21). He finished the game hitting a career-high 12 field goals.

North Texas held Troy to just 25 first-half points. NT used a 16-5 run to start the game and extended its lead to as many as 19 points, 39-20, in the first half.

The Mean Green started the second half with a 10-2 run and led by 20+ points for the majority of the second period. NT shot 49.3 from the field for the game and 42.9 percent from three-point range.

For the second straight game, Quincy Williams was one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Tristan Thompson came off the bench to score 13 points, including 10 in the second half.

North Texas held the edge on the boards, 52 to 33. The Mean Green has not pulled down more than 50 rebounds since it recorded 72 against Texas A&M International. NT also recorded 52 rebounds in its opening win against Cameron.

Ben Bell kept up the tempo throughout the game. He finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.

North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 20 when it faces ULM on the road at 7:30 pm.

And how about some of those thunderous dunks by Adam McCoy.......

Last night's rout set the stage for quite an exhibition (even if the most monsterous slam bounced out). Hopefully Adam will get the opportunity to put on another show against Arkansas State on Saturday. KaBOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

That guy was posterized!

As hard as it may be to believe (given the sheer dominance that they photo portrays) it was much worse in person.

And McCoy doesn't need no stinkin' cupcakes or superman capes either!!

Also note the sheer boredom of the typical super pit crowd in the background.

Yes, I noticed that too. I was hoping it was just those couple of sections in the photo though.

It certainty wasn't one of the bigger crowds of the season, but it seems to me that those who DO come out are getting more and more involved in the game. I'm not sure if this season is going to produce the kinds of strides forward everyone had hoped but, if "In House" enthusiasm is any indication, this is the strongest I've seen the program in the last 6 years. Lets hope the arrow keeps trending upward.
